Here we go! Starting August 12th...anyone want to be accountability partners?

After spending the last several years as a 50 year young woman :) and experiencing the changes that I heard come with living this decade, I have gained 50 pounds and became a serial financial supporter of all the greatly marketed diet plans over the past few years. Alas, to little avail, I still live with sugar addiction and a wonderful life partner who sighs and asks for his latest meal planning direction!

Anyway, I ran across this way of eating last night on the web. My son and his wife, previously vegetarians, began the Paleo way of eating for health six months ago, and feel better than ever. I started weight watchers online three months ago...just. Doesn't. Work. For me.

So with borderline pre-diabetes, and a very high stress job, a birthday coming up...I am committing 30 days to explore this way of eating. I'm also committing to a personal trainer 3 days a week in the earlier morning hours.

I offer mutual support and coaching to someone else in a similar place in life.

Cheers to all! Glad to have found this chat room!

Hi Anita!  I just started today, so I would love to have an accountability partner as well.  I am 43, have tried absolutely every diet plan as well.  I feel like I am a sugar vampire.  I can smell it a mile away and am drawn to it like an addiction.  It is scary and sad how sugar and junk food controls my life, my money and my emotions.  I am stopping that today.

My name is Michelle and I am 61. I have always been thin to During menopause 51-60 I gained 25 lbs and no aiming of elliptical, walking, working out, weight watchers could budge it. I figured this weight was my new normal and I was resigned to it even though when I looked in the mirror I did not recognize myself.

Last summer i began a low carb diet I immediately felt better and lost 6 lbs. I and bgan reading "low carb" blogs. Ultimately I got to the Whole 9 website. I completed my first W45 in November and then completed a W100 in April. Since April I have been about 80% compliant and I have been experimenting with "rising my own bike". It's been difficult in some areas for me (ice cream is my challenge) and some have decided to do another W30 and I started on August 1st. I am happy to follow along with you and provide any support and assistance that you need.

Fear--I get it. Ask yourself if you can do anything for only 30 days.

What I learned during my first w45 is to take 3 deep breaths (or more) before the temptation to offroad. I Center my mind and tell myself it's only 30 days.

I learned so much and i feel so much better ( and lost 20 lbs that I thought would be mine forever!). I have also learned that the journey is never over. I am continuing to learn I'm happy to be your cheerleader.

I began my third round of Whole 30 on August 1 so I am 11 days in. I would be happy to coach your through.

Hi Anita.  We're in similar boats. I'm on day 2, starting over after 3 weeks of Paleo (not on Whole 30) and "falling off the wagon" a few times. I will turn 50 next year, and am 70 pounds overweight, also with borderline diabetes (blood sugar on the high side of normal). I'm really motivated to lose the weight because my mother was borderline diabetic and insulin resistant and developed dementia (high blood sugar and insulin resistance increases your risk of Alzheimer's). I email a coach through Robb Wolf's paleo website once a week with my goals, but I could use more support online. I'm totally addicted to sugar. Fortunately my husband and teens are being pretty supportive. No more sweets allowed in the house unless it's under lock and key (literally--we got 2 containers that we have locked and put in the pantry and freezer for their treats). I also see a nutritionist who supports this "alternative" way of eating. Good luck as you start out!

Looks like I am in your same boat, ladies.

46, done all the diets, 50+ lbs overweight,

Started mostly... On August 1st: no sugar, alcohol, and started weening off gluten and dairy.

By the 6th was clean of gluten and dairy.

By the 11th I finished reading "it starts with food" and went full plan!

Feeling pretty good and sugar cravings are down.

I am planning to start counting my 30 days from the 11th.
