healthygut
I'm excited and nervous to be starting tomorrow! And I'm feeling solidarity with the others I see who are also starting this week, although probably not many will be starting on a Tuesday! (There's a story there - I was supposed to start today, but managed to mentally backslide yesterday and persuaded myself it made more sense to start tomorrow). But I'm absolutely determined at this point, and look forward to seeing what happens over the 30 days. I'm particularly hoping for positive changes to my skin. I have a red rash on my face which has come and gone for a year despite all efforts, and is getting worse. I think stopping dairy and dark chocolate will be the hardest things for me. Ouashley
When I did my first whole30, I was scared of giving up cheese, but I found that adding a little sea salt to a dish gives the same response cheese did! Weird I know..but it helped!
jubileejones
Welcome healthygut. I am also starting today (Aug 27) for similar reasons. I've been delaying starting since Aug 1st. I talked myself out of starting Monday because I wasn't 100% prepared with food and there were a few non-compliant foods that I wanted to finish off and I wanted to have one last latte with sugar and...and...and...I'm sure I could have kept on coming up with excuses. This morning I woke up and decided to just start. No more excuses. This is my second whole30; I completed my first one in June. I also have some skin issues (acne, eczema) and saw improvements (especially the acne) during my June W30. I encourage you to use the forums. They've been a great help to me. I mostly lurked my first time around, but have gotten so much from other people's posts that I want to give back by posting myself. I'll be posting my meals in the W30 log section. If you have any questions, ask...the community here is very supportive. So far my day one has started well. I hope that you're having a great start to the day too. AshleyAnth
I started today as well!!! My grandpa asked me to do the Whole30 with him, which he had done in the past. I had never done it, but have eaten Paleo before, and rarely eat grains and dairy anyways. He said either Monday or Tuesday he would start, and decided Tuesday was best, so I went with it. lol
healthygut
Hi, I'm thrilled to see your replies! And glad to know we've started together and can check in with each other as we go. Sorry I didn't check yesterday. How's it going so far? I'm doing fine food-wise. My rash had been getting worse over the weekend, and then got really really bad, the worst it's ever been, so having tried everything allopathic and naturopathic doctors had offered me, I thought I'd go to a Chinese herbalist who has been really helpful to my partner for some issues. So I'm doing Chinese herbs that taste absolutely disgusting, and that's very successfully distracted me from my lack of chocolate, cream, yoghurt, etc! (So far, at least!) Anyway, I hope you're both doing great.

AshleyAnth
So far so good for me! Been experimenting with foods so I don't end up eating salads every night, and eggs every morning. Been spending a lot of time just cutting and prepping different things so I can just grab and heat it up. It's been DELICIOUS! Today my breakfast was 2 over medium eggs, with peppers, kale, cashews, olive oil, and avocado. With a side of blueberries, strawberries, and banana sprinkled with cinnamon and nutmeg. I went to lunch with the family after my grandfathers funeral, and they wanted TGIFridays. I agreed to go, and just got a salad with only tomato and avocado, had my own dressing with me (I had planned on eating my own food I brought, but had nowhere to eat it), and I put a small serving of a Primal Pac in there, so I could have some protein. When appetizers came out, however, my dad tried to convince me I could have the spinach and artichoke dip, fried green beans, and bruschetta (with lots of cheese on it). I was explaining that I couldn't... it's not clean. Mind you, I don't brag about the Whole30, or even bring it up. I know a lot of people wouldn't understand, and I'm not going to push it on anyone else. Well, my uncle asked me what sort of diet plan I was on, and my dad pipes in "some stupid diet thing". I was soooo mad after he said that! As if it isn't hard enough to make the changes myself, I don't even get support from my family?!?! AND my husband, when i said I can't have alcohol, he says "it's just a chart. you can cheat a chart." Way to support me through this... Anyways.... as far as food goes, I've been doing pretty darn good! Hope everyone else is doing great too!
healthygut
I feel sad when I see the references to eating eggs. Sigh!! I love eggs, and they're so useful. But I discovered with a blood test that I'm allergic to egg whites, so I stopped eating them as of the beginning of May. The idea of eating just egg yolks wasn't appealing (and at first didn't even occur to me!) But I read the GAPS book, and she speaks so highly of the benefits of egg yolks and the ease of their digestion, that I thought I'd try them her way, which is to add them to soups. Sounds weird, but in practice they just melt right in and disappear, no slimy texture (which would be hard for me), can't even tell they're there! So I've been eating them recently, and am so glad to get that nutrition even if i can't have a frittata or the million other egg things I like! AshleyAnth
My Saturday night consisted of grocery shopping! lol As I was checking out, the lady that was scanning everything says "You're buying all this healthy stuff... asparagus... eggplant... peaches... you need the fun stuff!" I was like, "This IS the fun stuff!" She looked at me like I was crazy! And then proceeded to tell me I was skinny, had beautiful skin and hair, and I didn't need to lose any weight. Tried to tell her it's not about losing weight, it's about being healthy and living life. She wanted nothing of it though! Oh well... I'm gonna keep buying my healthy stuff! Breakfast was a pork chop with zucchini, cashews, and a cauliflower/carrot/sweet potato mash Had a late lunch of grilled chicken with avocado and kale, cantaloupe, and grilled peppers. Haven't had anything for dinner, because I'm honestly just not hungry. I kind of want to make myself eat something, since we need 3 meals, but at the same time, isn't this about listening to your body and its cues? I'm at a standstill... once again. I honestly don't like eggs too much, but I've recently started liking them due to Whole30, and eating the cage free eggs. They actually do taste different! Plus, I season them and mix them. It's interesting about the soup you're talking about... you should post the recipe for us.

Hi, I'm impressed you're doing a second round, good for you!! How is this one going? Have you noticed different things about your reactions this time? My rash got really really bad just before I started my Whole30, but the Chinese herbs seem to have really helped, plus hopefully the diet too, so it's still a bit red but not on fire like before. I'm doing pretty well not feeling cravings for most things. I miss yoghurt and cream, but it's not a big deal going without them. I do notice my desire/craving for dark chocolate after a meal, which was my habit before. i feel like it's not too hard to do without it temporarily, but it may be a hard habit to get out of for life! I'll see how it goes...

She's talking about bone broth with meat and vegetables boiled in it, which is good for gut healing and is what i'm doing mostly, but I imagine it would be fine in whatever soup you had. It's amazing how the yolks just disappear!
