Hello, folks. Decided to start September 1

Why not start on a Holiday weekend, when everyone is enjoying cheeseburgers, corn on the cob, and beer.  Right?  :o

I've been watching documentaries like Food Inc., and such, for a few years now, and after recently seeing "The Perfect Human Diet", decided it's time to do something, instead of constantly saying "I gotta do something"

I know a few people that have been doing the Paleo thing, and I started researching, and it brought me to the Whole 30. Well, my wife agreed to do it with me, so we're going to commit to Sept. 1.

Being a huge fan of bread, pasta, cheese, potatoes, sour cream, real butter, ice cream, beer, etc., I realize it's time to change my eating habits. I'm going to give this whole 30 thing a shot, but i'm really worried, if one thing is going to make me slip, it'll be beer. I'm a pretty heavy beer drinker, and giving that up for 30 days is going to be very trying, but i'm going to try. I really want to do it for 30 days, and then maybe try to switch to red wine.

I've seen a bunch of recipes out there for paleo food, and although I think it will be a challenge, i worry about the beverages. water and tea?  really?   i've never been a fan of sparkling water, or the flavored waters before, but i guess i will have to revisit them. And revisit things like spaghetti squash, which my wife loved, but could not get me to eat more than a few bites.

I'm only sharing all this, because I hear this is a supportive bunch, and I'm fearing I may need some support in the coming month!!

Wish me luck!!

I do wish you luck as you stated being a fan of bread...etc; yes it will be hard for you.  I think anyone can do it if they try, but you have to be committed.  Even if you only make it 2 weeks, that is 2 weeks longer than you thought you could.  But I'll bet that you can do the Whole30. I thought my hardest thing would be no WINE, as I am an every evening partaker of that lovely beverage. lol.  So far so good.  I did realize yesterday that I can have whole juices so yesterday evening I had a glass of cranberry juice (no sweetener - just juice) and that was a nice change to the water and coffee I have been drinking.

The no sugar in my coffee was hard to get used to and to tell you the truth, if I drink a bottle (or 1/2 bottle) of water each morning before my coffee, I am fine with one small cup or maybe two.

I have been feeling a little like I don't eat often enough because I used to snack on chips or crackers, but I'll just grab an apple and almonds or something like that when I need to.

So far so good.  You and your wife CAN do it!

Things have been pretty good for me since I started on Sept 1st.  I was a fan of sauteed veggies and am more so now.  I liked the comment about upping my protein to help me not get hungry between meals.  I am going to try that.  It has been hard not having my evening glass (or two) of red wine, but "hard" is an overstatement.  My breakfasts are sometimes easy green smoothies made with almond milk (unsweetened of course).  I usually throw in some frozen strawberries, blueberries, a banana and as much spinach as will fit in the big magic bullet cup.  Quick and easy.  Or sometimes I do the omelet with veggies (and I was doing that before Sept 1).

I think shopping and washing and chopping will be a challenge and I'll just have to eat what I can afford to eat.  I can't find bacon that is compliant as all of it contains sugar so I will go without until I do find some.

Since I love veggies and I have time to prepare and cook my own meals, I know I can do this and so can all of you.

Glad to hear you love veggies - you get to eat them at every meal on your Whole30!

Just a quick FYI: smoothies are discouraged on a Whole30. They want you to chew your food, vs. drink it. Plus it's too easy to overdo too many fruits in one sitting, vs. splitting your two fruit servings throughout the day. Finally, a smoothie is not as satiating as eating/chewing the same food.
