Coconut oil

I admit I am a very "mental " eater and when things don't soun d good to me I can't try them. Is there any reason I can't always use olive oil all the time like I've been doing. Coconut oil sounds horrible to me and I can't mske myself buy it...I stood there looking at the variety at whole foods and walked away queasy lol.

Olive oil isn't bad, it's just not the best choice for cooking at high temps.

 

If coconut oil isn't appealing to you, other good fats for high heat cooking are clarified butter, duck fat, ghee, goat fat, lard and tallow.

Thanks for the quick reply... I'm no great cook and have always used olive oil for sautéing... I've never noticed anything bad about it. Should I not?

olive oil oxidizes at high temperature, so it is best to use it for low heat cooking or salad dressings, etc. Animal fats (ghee, tallow, lard) and coconut oil are more stable at high heat.

Perhaps buy a refined coconut oil? Apparently it's got no coconut taste/smell...

I never used to like cooking in CO - love it now! Sometimes you just have to make yourself do things and get over the mental barrier

I use refined coconut oil for frying and cooking, especially for the kids who will not go for coconut flavored food. There is no coconut smell or taste to refined CO.
