Starting today, 9/3! I'm a mess!

Hi All,

I'm a 40 year old healthcare provider and father of a 3 year old.  What can I say?  I'm a mess.  Ever since my son was born I have watched my health detiorate from my poor choices and stress.  My sleep never really recovered from when he was an infant and I've slowly become more and more dependent on coffee and other natural stimulants.  At night I pretty much always use some type of sleep aid.  I've felt pretty much constantly exhausted and I've been determined not to let my low energy impact my relationship with my son.  However, once he goes to bed all I feel like doing is watching tv.  I use to have tons of hobbies (playing guitar, martial arts, etc.) but all of that has fallen by the wayside.  My wife has struggled with her own new paraenting issues and we both recognize we need more energy for our relationship.  My weight has slowly crept up in the last 5 years and now I'd say I'm a good 30 pounds off my ideal weight. 5'11" 196lbs, currently.  To make matters worse in the last two years I've been developing what I'm pretty sure is rosacae on my forhead!  Not a pretty picture.  Anyway, as a healthcare provider I've always understood that diet is the most profound medicine.  It's time for me to practice what I preach!  So, I'm starting today!  I tried to rope my wife and friends in, but no takers.  So, I'm really looking for support here.  Anybody who would like to join me please do!  I will happily lend you my input, support, and tough love.

thanks!

I'm on day two after a year of no wheat/gluten. Your health, for your and your family's sake, is worth it. Of course, it won't be easy but it will be worth it. I've seen benefits from the no wheat/gluten but want to take it to the next level to try to stop all of my migraines and gain control of my snacking.

You can do it.

Yes it will be totally worth it! This program is not easy (I'm on Day 16!) and with no help or support at home it may be a little harder, but don't give up. Take it day by day. Your wife (& friends) may jump in once they see how well you are doing! ;)

We started on the same day and have some similar issues, except my forehead rosacea is flat out psoriasis! Red blotchy itchy psoriasis that developed a couple years ago. Thank goodness for bangs.

I also work peripherally in the health care industry and am the primary caretake for my mom over the last year, which while isn't being a parent, is a full time job being responsible for another human being. It's affected my sleep and like you, my outside interests have fell by the wayside, probably due to exhaustion and poor eating and drinking choices. (Wine was my sleep aid.)

I see lots of us are on day two around here, so I guess we can all kick each other's butt and keep ourselves in line.

Day 1 went great!  I broke out the crockpot and made a beef stew for dinner.  For lunch I grilled some fish and ate it over salad.  My energy was great all day.  However, this morning I did need my coffee (with cocnut milk).  I have plenty of leftover stew for todays lunch and I think I'll make a curry for dinner.  I'm really trying to focus on the fun of cooking.  Even my wife and 3-year old son have been eating my leftovers.  I slept well last night and in a week or so I will begin reducing my sleep medications.  I'm sure I'll be bitching about some problems tomorrow, but so far... so good.
