Sarahlizy
I was wondering if its ok to have Superlife smoothie mix in water? http://superlife.ie/product.asp?item_id=2 The ingredients are: Hemp, Maca, Lucuma, Cacao, Spirulina, Chlorella, Kelp, Barley Grass I think individually the ingredients are ok, as far as I can find anyway. I've had it in the past with water and I definately felt better in general and more enegetic and it was also easier to stick to my healthy eating plan while I was using it but that could have been all psychological. Is it ok to use something like this as a morning beverage?
Moderators Tom Denham Posted September 5, 2013 Moderators Share Posted September 5, 2013 No. We want you to eat real, whole food. Substituting powdered drinks for real food is why the Whole30 had to be invented.
Sarahlizy
This wouldnt be used as a substitution to a meal, just as a supplement beverage a bit of a multivitamin in water form if you will, it doesn't thicken in water or anything like that. superwhole
No. We want you to eat real, whole food. Substituting powdered drinks for real food is why the Whole30 had to be invented. What sort of reply is that? Almost looks like you didn't read the original question, which is odd for a moderator ... I can't see any mention of substituting it for real food anywhere. Would be good to have a constructive answer instead

It's likely, as the drink would have some fat/protein/carbs that would take up stomach space.... Try to eat food to satisfy your needs during your whole 30! Powdered drinks aren't that great - stuff in powdered form oxidises very quickly so lose most of the vitmains/minerals they mention!
Guest
It does sound like a psychological fix. Eating whole foods will give the vitamins you will need. You will (probably) realize that by eating more of the recommended foods on the shopping list (with only sprinkles of the limited foods), you will be meeting your body's needs with ease. Whole foods are magic! The answer to your question is: no, using powdered nutrients is not part of a Whole30. That's why Tom said it. People ask about drinks/shakes/smoothies ALL THE TIME. The answer to your concern about feeling better/energy/vitamins is: try whole food for 30 full days and then you can choose the powder if you want. You came to Whole30 for a reason, right? Try it their way to find out if it works for you.
Sarahlizy
Thanks, I'll avoid it then. I completely intend doing the whole 30 properly, hence why I asked before using it. I genuinely just wasn't clear on where this stood as it seemed like a vitamin supplement.
