MissDivergent
I am only on Day 4. But I just realized that I have been using Vanilla extract and that's not allowed. I don't know why I thought it was....but big mistake on my part. However, I only used 1tsp in a homemade coffee creamer that yeilds about 8 cups and I only had 1 cup a day, so truly hardly any vanilla really. In comparison to what I used to drink (liquid sugary Coffeemate creamer), this is nothing. But does this deem starting over? I would think not....but would like others to weigh in. Also, tell me if this is unhealthy. I was at the store today and noticed that tangerines were on sale so I picked up about 8. On the way home, I was so excited to be able to have one with dinner tonight and with my lunches for the rest of the week. I feel like this is an unhealthy reaction to an orange. Should I wait to eat this? Or is ok that I am excited about eating an orange? Hahah!
Roz Griffiths
Don't start over, just don't keep using it I understand vanilla extract is only on the banned list to fit in with the No Alcohol rule There's nothing wrong with getting excited about a week's worth of bargain oranges If you'd eaten them all in one sitting that would be less than ideal, but one a day is fine! almcc
I agree with Roz! Plus after years on a low carb diet with no fruit, you bet I'm excited about the fruit I eat now!! Happy eating!
jent103
I'd say the same as Roz, but hopefully a moderator will give you the "official" word. If your reaction to tangerines is unhealthy, then my reaction to peach season was off the charts. Seriously, it's good that you're monitoring the psychological side of things, but as long as you're not thinking of it as "dessert" and it's not triggering sugar cravings for you, I think your plan is good! Robin Strathdee
MissDivergent - You're fine to keep going, just ditch that extract
MissDivergent
Ditching the extract! Making a new batch tonight with a couple dates for a little sweetness instead of the vanilla. Had my orange with dinner and it was perfect! And it didn't make me want to eat chocolate, so even better! Hahha. I definitely savored the sweetness of it though! Thanks guys!!! Ruby
I'd be more concerned about using a sweetened creamer in your coffee than the extract. I don't wanna be a killjoy, but that sounds a little like SWYPO.
Bethany Lannon
How did you make the homemade creamer? Did you use the separated coconut milk trick and just whip that up or did you make something else?
MissDivergent
Actually I use a stick blender and I pour my ingredients into the measuring cup thing that comes with it. I use 1 can coconut milk ( I shake it before I pour it in) 1 egg 2 tablespoons-ish melted coconut oil Bunch of cinnamon to taste Maybe 2-3 tablespoons of date paste I pour it all in the cup. Put the stick blender into the bottom and press the button and wait for it to all mix together. You could probably just do it in a blender. I just don't have a blender at the moment. It doesn't really add much to the coffee....but it's just a little to take some of the bitterness off. But it's nice to have some fat in the mornings with my coffee. Blending with ghee/coconut oil takes the edge off too! Or just adding a splash of coconut milk
MissDivergent
Blending with ghee/coconut oil takes the edge off too! Or just adding a splash of coconut milk Yah that's pretty much what I do. I don't have a blender so I can't do it with the coffee. Thats why I have the "creamer" made before hand and put some in with the coffee. I was doing it without date paste, but with vanilla....I think I am going to slowly work up to black or bulletproof, but this step alone is huge for me. I've always been a super sugary coffee drinker so going to pretty much none is crazy. I am surprised I have been able to do it because I have tried in the past and failed. Maybe I'll get to the point where I don't need coffee...but it's such a ritual/routine for me. I need to kick the habit, but working with baby steps....or maybe toddler steps.
