healthy_haley
I'm on Day 25 of my first whole 30 and have yet to run into any dining issues but tonight I have a feeling I'm going to be faced with quite a challenge. I've been invited to attend a best friend's birthday dinner at a mexican restaurant and after looking at the menu, I don't even think anything is compliant. I know the better option is to just not go, but to me that would make me feel bad. Does anybody see anything on this menu that I could make compliant at all or am I doomed for failure with 5 days left? http://www.bluemesagrill.com/menus/dinner-menu
GFChris
The Spa Grilled Fish-of-the-Day looks promising. Can you call the restaurant ahead of time and see if they can prepare it for you in a way that's Whole30 compliant?
healthy_haley
Yeah that is probably my best bet! I was thinking of going with that, or one of the salads with no dressing and bringing my own oil/vinegar combination for dressing or just asking for lemons and using the lemon juice to spring it up a little bit. Do you think that would be compliant as well?
Mom2A&M
This place looks more promising than you might think. In their nutrition info page they have a written disclaimer that they will prepare foods to your dietary needs. You can definately eat here. You could ask for plain avacado if the quac isn't compliant too since they freshly prepare the quac.

Do you think that would be compliant as well? Yes, the salads could work in the way you suggested, as long as the proteins are grilled in a compliant way. Either request dry-grilled, or any oil but soybean or rice bran. No butter/dairy, seasonings, sauces or marinades.
Susan W
This is a great restaurant to W30 dine. You could ask them (I would call ahead) and see what they marinate their skewers in. It probably has sugar, but maybe not. If the marinade is not compliant, ask them if they could do unmarinated skewers. Their guac is probably compliant and you can stop them if they reach for the sour cream. Ask for raw veggies to dip into the guac. Think of the menu as a list of ingredients and call ahead to ask your questions. Tip well. :0)
healthy_haley
Phew! I survived and stayed compliant. I also have a gluten intolerance which made them pay more attention to my order as well. I got the skewers with steak and veggies and they didn't put on the marinade or seasonings so they grilled it dry and it also came with guacamole which was compliant and pico. It was delicious and I'm proud of myself for staying on track! 5 days left until I'm done!!
