Day 24-- Frustrated

I'm in the home stretch.. Day 24! Up until this past weekend, I was starting to feel really good..good enough to continue on to a Whole45 or 60. I think I finally found a good balance with food/enough water/pre and post workout meals. My sleep is definitely deeper, but I do wake up once or twice a night to use the bathroom but I'm definitely feeling more rested, even when I get up at 5 fo rmy work out.

I am not recapping what I ate completely...just noting the meals that had new foods during this Whole30, if I need to provide more detail, I can.

Saturday-- My stomach started to not feel very well and blamed it on the 2 cups of coffee I had. During the week, I've gotten down to just a half a cup or so I take from home since I'm not a big fan of the coffee at work. On the weekends, I will have a little more while I have breakfast enjoying the morning. For the rest of the day, my stomach was definitely upset. That night we made a chicken and shrimp pumpkin coconut (with broccoli and peppers) curry over cauliflower rice. I started feeling a little bloated, but nothing too bad.

Sunday-- My stomach bothered me all day and I had a tough time getting things going.. as the day went on, I didn't feel as bloated but I still didn't "go" as much as I would like. Dinner included brussel sprouts again.

Monday-- Not so much bloated or feeling bad....but no luck in the bathroom. I picked up some kombucha to try along with my meals.

My analysis... something to do with the cauliflower/broccoli/brussel sprouts. Does anyone have any feedback? I'm definitely staying away from those, eating plenty of sweet potatoes with the skin on...when should I feel back to normal?

It could be possible that you're getting too much insoluble fiber - I found this article useful:

Switching up the vegies may help - going for more of the soluble fiber ones, reducing your portion sizes or avoiding the suspect ones for a while to see if symptoms subside?

I was also having bloating/BM issues, and suspect I was having too much broc/cauli/cabbage. I lessened my intake slightly, made sure I ate it cooked, not raw, and also started digestive enzymes. It's a lot better and I don't notice any bad effects anymore.

Thank you! I will try adding some different veggies he listed that and stay away from ones high in insoluble fiber until I feel more normal. It took me 30 years to discover brussel sprouts, so I hope I can still enjoy them, just maybe a smaller portion!

I will also continue with the kombucha to see how that helps, but also look into the digestive enzymes if needed.

Also, I know (anecdotally) that a lot of people suffer digestive issues when they eat a lot of brassica veg, which is what all of that is.

http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/content/interviews/interview/1905/, seems both amusing and factual.

I'd suggest chilling out on the brassica family, see if that helps. If you've been having slow BMs, it may take a few days to clear your system.

Make sure you're still getting enough other veg. :D And keep up with the digestive enzymes.

Thank you for the additional suggestions. I have never considered FODMOPS as I never really thought I had an issue with anything but maybe now that my body has had time to adjust to whole foods, it was also fighting off some of those in addition to the processed items too and I was quick to blame just the processed and other items I cut out.

I will look over this list and adjust to test. My 30 days is up on Tuesday but I think I will continue until I get things figured out. My sleep has really started to improve the last few days!

Things are slowly starting to move, more bloated than Monday or Tuesday but at least I am visiting the bathroom. I'm also going to look into the enzymes for additional help.
