MicheleC
Hi all, I started an autoimmune protocol and so nightshades including hot peppers are out. I was wondering if anyone knew of anything that is not a pepper but is spicy so I can still liven up my meals without aggravating my arthritis. Thanks!! Adagio
These spices/herbs aren't hot-spicy, but just flavorful: Turmeric, Cumin, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, shallots, onions, garlic, coriander, cardamom, ginger, mustard, oregano, rosemary. Turmeric is especially healing to arthritis, as is oregano and rosemary. I suggest you get a Penzey's catalog and read the descriptions of their spice mixes. I tried a bunch of them and it's a lot of fun. Some of them are combinations I never imagined would taste good together. For example, I fell in love with their Tsardust Memories spice - salt, pepper, garlic, cinnamon, nutmeg, and marjoram. It's warm and spicy without being overpowering. Also, their Sunny Paris is my second favorite - but that one has green peppercorns. Smoked sea salt rocks. I get mine at amazon, the brand is Maldon. http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/penzeyscatalog.html http://www.amazon.com/Maldon-Smoked-Sea-Salt/dp/B0019S6GLE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1342566906&sr=8-2&keywords=maldon+smoked+sea+salt
kayell
Black pepper, Sichuan pepper, raw ginger, wasabi. I don't know whether they are all safe for arthritis or immune protocols, but none of them are nightshades.
