Sarah Campbell
These have always been a go-to, healthy source of quick protein for me on nights I don't have time to cook. Are the rotisserie chickens you can buy in grocery stores typically compliant?
amberino21
Unfortunately not - they've likely got some sort of sweetener, potentially soy/gluten and other nasties. You may find "naked" rotisserie chicken that is made without this stuff added.
1Maryann
You have to be really specific when you ask. Even if you find one without any seaonings or such on the outside, many of them have been brined in, or injected with, a non-compliant broth mixture to keep them moist and tender while cooking. Bet
Whole Foods Naked is compliant. We actually made our own rotisserie chickens 2 weeks ago. We bought some great chickens and hubby did them on the rotisserie attachment on the grill. They only take 35-40 minutes. I let them cool and then separated the parts and put them in containers with veggies for work lunches. They freeze/reheat wonderfully.
jillian
I believe the Whole Foods "Naked" and the Whole Foods "Plain" are both compliant - if I'm not mistaken, the ingredients in the plain style include canola oil - which is okay (not great, but not prohibited). Sarah Campbell
Thanks all! Appreciate the guidance.
Delaine Ross
There is another WF compliant one (Herbed, maybe? I can't think off the top of my head but the ingredients are listed on the label.) Just check the labels and make sure there aren't nasty ingredients - they should be listed. The ones at our "regular" supermarkets have sugar and sometimes even corn starch! PS - One of my favorite things to do is make mayo in the vitamix and add the meat/skin from the rotisserie chicken and all the juices to make chicken salad. cmccoy
I found that the Kroger organic brand "Simple Truth" has a rot. chicken with the ingredients "Chicken, Water, Salt". So that's what I use since it's cheaper and more convenient than Whole Foods...
NoraKathleen
At our house we roast two chickens on Sunday. Lately we smoke them after the addition of our new smoker. We then vacuum seal for maximum freshness, and reheat on weeknights when we are too exhausted to cook!
praxisproject
I roast my own from the NomNomPaleo recipe (two at once!). Be wary of any that are cooked in a vertical cooker too (not flat, in rows), sometimes the "naked" ones are cooked underneath ones with nasties and it drips all over them as they cook. trigirl
What is the Whole Foods "Naked" chicken? Do you have to ask for it?
justmary
I just checked Costco's, and their's is NOT compliant. I was bummed, but not surprised.

I will roast one at home when I feel the need...
