S_E
I started the Whole30 7 days ago and seemed to be doing fine until day 4. I have been woken to extreme hunger, and the shakes during the night. It has been as early as 1a.m. Also, how long does it take to know if the fermented sauerkraut is causing gastric problems. In the last 24 hours I have had severe stomach issues. Added Bubbies sauerkraut Friday evening, just a couple tbspns. Right now have no appetite! My meals: breakfast: 2-3 whole pastured eggs. At least one cup of veggies/zucchini, spinach cooked in coconut oil. Plus a handful of sausage. (hungry within 2-2 1/2 hours. lunch:4-5 ozs salmon/tuna/beef/pork(whatever I have prepared). Huge salad/mixed greens, broccoli, cauliflower, avocado. Use a homemade olive oil, balsamic vinegar dressing. Sweet potato dinner: At least 1-2 palm sized meat, whatever I have prepared. Example would be a fiesta taco soup I prepared. Topped with avocado and salsa. Salad. I started Whole30 not because I have any health problems. I have great cholesterol(good and bad), triglycerides are fine, my weight is also great and body fat is low. I was more interested in getting my body to use the fat as fuel. I have struggled with having to eat every 3 hours, and I wanted to try and see if this type of meal plan would help alleviate that. I workout very regularly (4-5x/week) and fairly intensely. amberino21
If you are hungry between meals, it's generally a sign you need to eat more! It may take some time to adjust though, so perhaps plan 4 meals a day for a few days? If you are working out, are you including the pre/postWO meals on top of your three meals? It's not unusual to have changes in digestion especially in the first few days. You are eating a lot of raw vegies and a lot of fibrous vegies though - these can cause digestive issues in many people. Perhaps try eating more cooked vegies, and add more starchy carbs. If you are working out intensely, you would probably do well including more in your meals. The sauerkraut should help, along with other probiotic rich foods. S_E
Thanks for the info. I had already been eating quite a few raw veggies. The main diet change for me has been no grains and dairy. I will try the 4th meal for a few days and see if it helps. So the sauerkraut should not cause more gastric issues? Rather it should be helping? amberino21
Are you eating more vegies though, to make up for the lack of grains/dairy? The sauerkraut should be helping, yes!! It should be making your guy healthier...
S_E
Yes, I probably am eating more than before. Currently I am addicted to sweet potatoes for my higher starch veggie, what other options are there? I have the book IASWF, guess I need to look over that section. If I cut back on those cruciferous veggies I am not sure what else to eat.
amberino21
Other starchy carbs: beetroot, pumpkin/butternut squash, carrots, parsnip, turnip etc Less starchy...capsicums, zucchini, tomato, green beans, snow peas, asparagus, mushrooms, fennel, all sorts of greens ...loads more! (I'm just mentally going through my fridge!)
Adriane
I'd encourage you to keep going. I had similar issues the first 2ish weeks of mine (I'm on day 24!) and was so ready to quit. But it did adjust almost magically and suddenly the recommended meal plan did keep me full until the next meal. I was talking about it somewhere on the forum. What helped me was making sure I had a lot of healthy fats at each meal. I ended up eating half an avocado at each meal or at least twice a day. That seemed to help tremendously in helping the hunger and shaking between meals. It does get better. I think it is just the bodies way of adjusting to not having readily available sugar and learning to use the fat. Now the only time I get hungry between meals is when I don't eat enough (and I know it too!).
