My notes from last year said that my root veg hating husband liked it and the kids ate it without drama. I made it again (with double bacon LOL) and everyone gobbled it down. Not only was there no drama, but the kids asked for seconds. I skipped the sugar, obviously, and it does not need it, especially if you use some carrots or sweet potatoes as part of the mix.
