aventurine
Because of a genetic problem, my body does not absorb a certain vitamin properly, and my doctor advised me to take a supplement in a specific formulation. I have a lot of trouble swallowing pills and capsules, so this particular vitamin, I can only take in lozenge form. The issue is that it contains xylitol. Is this a problem during OR after the Whole30? The alternative is to take an inferior form of the vitamin, which I'm pretty reluctant to do, because I already have a problem absorbing it in the first place... Zoodles
Doctor's orders always trumps Whole30 rules. I guess the main problem with xylitol would be that it may keep you craving sweet things/sugar, but I don't think a lozenge would be feeding a sugar dragon too much. I also don't think a small amount of xylitol is too terrible for your body otherwise (I could be wrong!). I guess your other alternative would be to break a pill in half and see if that was easier to swallow, or hide it in a big spoon of mashed sweet potato
Bet
Is it B12?
missmary
Zoodles is right: your dr has you taking this, it is medicine, you get to continue. That said, you might ask the pharmacist if there is another forumlation of equal quality that doesn't contain xylitol--often there are options, so it is worth a try. aventurine
Thanks. It's actually folate, but the supplement (which is a more bio-available form than most have) includes b12 also, as I believe they work synergistically.
