LindaLee
Hi, everyone! I just finished the Lurong Living Paleo Challenge - 56 days of strict Paleo, though we were allowed a tiny amount of honey or other natural sweetener each day. I was thrilled to make it through all 56 days without a cheat; I lost 14 1/4" and about 8 pounds and made some great improvements in my Crossfit performance. The challenge ended and I've had about three days of sugary treats, so I'm ready to go back on the Whole30 to take me through the holidays. My one concern is Thanksgiving - I usually don't worry about the turkey, and I know I can pass up pumpkin pie or whatever since I know now what gluten does to me. But I'd like to be able to bring something to the table that day - some kind of stuffing or side dish that's Whole30 compliant. Ideas? My other goals are fairly typical - to practice good sleep hygiene, do a spiritual practice every day (read my Bible, listen to Mass, or recite a Rosary), practice loving kindness to those around me, and do 5 Crossfit workouts a week plus stretches/yoga on my active rest days. Anybody want to join me so we can make it through Thanksgiving on rails? Linda
amberino21
What about a vegie side dish? Roast Brussel sprouts with bacon, roast cauli/broccoli in ghee, wilted kale with pine nuts/almonds and cranberries?
LindaLee
Oooh, I like the wilted kale with pine nuts/almonds and cranberries. I think my brother-in-law would nix the bacon, but I like the roast cauli/broccoli idea too.
amberino21
Roasted Brussels are delicious without bacon I've also made a sauce that goes nicely on steamed greens - almond butter, lemon juice, herbs (I like parsley) and enough water to make a saucey consistency, all whizzed in a processor or blender
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted November 14, 2013 Moderators Share Posted November 14, 2013 I'm probably taking sweet potatoes to our Thanksgiving this year -- most likely roasted with salt, pepper, and chili powder, but possibly mashed/whipped with some coconut milk, haven't decided yet. Very traditional Thanksgiving food (well, not so much in our family where they're usually topped with marshmallows), but W30 compliant. Or look up the Velvety Butternut Squash from theclothesmakethegirl.com -- it's yummy, and looks impressive, but is easy to make.
LindaLee
Shannon - that butternut squash is a definite possibility; it looks delicious!
