foods that don't "feel good"

stubby

Recommended Posts

So I've read so many posts here about foods that don't "feel good".  So much advice.  Everyone seems to be so different.

The good part/take-away - eating so carefully helps us to determine what might be causing those feelings.

So for me....I have clearly learned that nuts cause me tummy aches.  No problem avoiding nuts (for sure cashews).

I have also learned that broccoli and brussel sprouts leave me with this "hollow, hungry, aching" feeling.  I have eaten them less.  I think cauliflower has a little of the same effect...not as sure.  Onions and peppers - a little as well.

Questions...if you have experienced this "hollow, hungry, aching" feeling after eating certain veggies.  Have you found that food processing them has helped make them "feel better"?  Have you found that any particular digestive enzyme has made them feel better?

Since there seems to be a good number of veggies that give me this feeling I'm so wishing I can find a way to not simply avoid them.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?

I don't know about the feeling you mention, but I was having issues eating lots of greens. The thought of eating less made me sad because I love them!! Eating less made the issues seem to go away, but adding digestive enzymes, HCL and getting probiotics seem to have helped a lot too...

Jillian,  I have pureed the broccoli and the cauli in mashes and both seem to do a little better. Cauli mashes, I almost always combine it with something starchier - so I think that helps.  I might try adding some broth making it more of a soup.  I wonder what I could puree with brussel sprouts or broccoli to kind of counteract?  Not sure.  Have to think about that.

Amber, I think I might try the NOW Super Enzyme that is on their supplements chart.  Do you take it only with meals that you know you don't react well to?

Thanks for the ideas.

Foods like broccoli, onions, brussell sprouts are FODMAPS. You may have a sensitivity to them. They can be hard to digest for some people and it can lead to gas, bloating and other digestive upset. I am not sure if pureeing them or any digestive enzyme can help. It's worth a shot.

I've read that processing FODMAPs can be helpful.  I'm trying very hard to only eat them cooked.  http://theclothesmakesthegirl.com has a great blended cauliflower soup - http://www.theclothesmakethegirl.com/2012/10/24/golden-cauliflower-soup/.  I would think you could do something similar with broccoli.  I've also found that limiting the FODMAPs without completely eliminating them seems to help.  So I don't have broccoli and cauliflower in the same meal.

What digestive enzymes do you use? I just ordered NOW Foods Betaine HCL, so I'm really excited to try that, though I liked the sound of their Super Enzymes, but it had milk in the ingredients?

Interesting about the milk trezkholl0806.  This is the Broad spectrum digestive enzyme that is listed as an example in the whole9 supplement list that seems to be shared a lot by the moderators.

But I also see in the ingredients list..."May contain lactose (milk) as a processing aid."

But at this site - it says no milk....maybe you have to buy this exact SKU: 733739029607 - 90 caps to make sure no milk.

I'll have to read more - thanks for the keen eye!!!  Good luck with the new order of NOW Foods Betaine HCL.  I'd love to hear how it goes.
