rozamu
Sorry if this has been asked/answered previously but I couldn't find an answer. I know they're like bananas, look-wise; taste, I have no clue. I'm looking at trying them but wondering if they are counted as fruits or veggies? Vian
I'd count them in the same group as sweet potatoes. I think they are technically a fruit, but insofar as nutritional value is concerned, they are mostly starch instead of readily-available sugar like most fruit, so they're about like sweet potato. praxisproject
They probably also vary the sugar/starch content based on the colour (ripeness), yellow and black are much sweeter than green. I use green ones like sweet potato.
amberino21
I've never see one IRL, let alone ever tasted one, but the impression I get is that they have the taste and texture of an underripe banana? I think they're technically a fruit but used in savoury dishes as a vegetable -much like a tomato.
GFChris
Plantains are considered a starchy fruit on a Whole30. I find it's easiest to search the forum via Google. Type Whole30 followed by whatever you're seeking and if it's here, the links will be provided.
