bellewannabe17
I'm going to make latkes on Thanksgiving, and I am wondering what oil to fry them in. I'm using regular potatoes for my husband and sweet potatoes for me. I've finished my Whole 30, but I am still trying to eat pretty compliant. For frying, I feel like vegetable oil would perform the best, but is there a better alternative that would still work? He does not like coconut oil. Thanks! amberino21
What about ghee? Or refined coconut oil that doesn't have the taste or smell of unrefined? They'd be healthier alternatives than vegetable oil
jent103
Ghee + potatoes (either kind) sounds like a winning combo to me! Am I thinking correctly that latkes are pan-fried, not deep-fried? So you wouldn't need to have a vat of melted cooking fat.
bellewannabe17
Ghee is a good idea. I hadn't even thought of it. I can pan fry them for him and I bet they will taste delicious. I will still do the sweet potato pancakes in coconut oil, because sweet potatoes and coconut oil together taste awesome to me!
