Edge
I'm trying to figure out why the Sweet Potato Waffle in Well Fed 2 isn't Whole30. Every ingredient seems OK. Is it just because it is recreating junk food (waffles)? Thanks.
GFChris
yes. it's the same reason why pancakes aren't Whole30 compliant. No Paleoifying.
drtracyb
So if I cook grated sweet potatoes in a saute pan, they are considered whole30. But if I cook them in a waffle iron they are not? I can see pancakes, because they have flour in them, but sweet potatoes that are seared in a grill press rather than pressed by a spatula?
GFChris
It's about context and keeping consistent with SWYPO standards. The rules are no pancakes on a Whole30: for the same reasons, no waffles. Again, it's about changing your relationship with food. Really want some compliant ingredients pressed in a waffle machine? Wait until after your Whole30: there are so many other compliant and non-Paleoifying ways to enjoy sweet potato.
Roz Griffiths
Apparently the sweet potato finishes up very bread-like, not like sweet potato at all
Edge
Well, they are delicious (sweet potato waffles), but rules are rules so I'll wait. However, another question. On the Whole30 "Official list of Can I have?" under sweet potato fries it says "make your own". Aren't sweet potato fries a Paleoified food also? Roz Griffiths
Homemade sweet potato fries are no more paleofying food than courgette/zucchini noodles - really it's just a different shape of pure vegetable. Though if you had a particular bingeing problem centred around fries or noodles, you'd want to avoid them anyway
Moderators Tom Denham Posted December 1, 2013 Moderators Share Posted December 1, 2013 Aren't sweet potato fries a Paleoified food also? I don't think so, but more importantly, Dallas and Melissa Hartwig don't think so.
