Lisa L
On a Facebook page (Whole 9 or Whole 30 - can't remember) the other day, there was a link to a website (Chowstalker) where there are tons of Whole 30 recipes. There's even a disclaimer that they are checked weekly blah blah blah, well the very FIRST one I clicked on had coconut sugar in it. Now I'm confused. Here is the link for the recipe: http://justjessieb.blogspot.com/2013/12/all-american-crockpot-chili-paleo.html And here is where it came from: http://stalkerville.net/diet/whole30/page/2/ Did I just get lucky in finding one that's not approved? Or is this a bad site? I think I can just make it without the coconut sugar but it seems odd to post recipes as "whole 30 approved" when they need to be altered. missmary
Lots of times people tag their recipes "whole30" even though they are not. I like to think these people are misinformed rather than devious, but regardless, it will be up to you to check ingredients and figure it out. In the specific case of this chili recipe, if you follow the recipe exactly, it is not permitted on the whole30 because of the coconut sugar. That said, I'm sure you could make the recipe leaving that ingredient out and it would taste fine.

Robin Strathdee
We did post it, and we do check them a couple of times a week. The recipes are user labeled and we filter them as quickly as we can. But you've always got to use your judgment when it comes to ingredients. ETA: When you do come across them, please point them out to us (like you did above) so we can nix 'em.
Lisa L
Thanks. Tom - I have an allergy to cocoa so that's out. Thanks for thinking of alternatives for me!
SpinSpin
Lisa-- you can leave the cocoa out-- it just deepens the flavor but it is good without!
