bookluvingbabe
I tried to do a search but you can't search for words less than 4 letters. (Sigh..) I want ham. Not proscuitto but ham. I think I have read the label on every ham product at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, My Organic Market and quizzed every farmer I know. I can't find anything locally that doesn't have some type of sugar. Obviously I can just wait it out but I have to know has anyone found a compliant ham? Thanks!
missmary
nope. I've never seen ham without some sort of sugar. Prosciutto occasionally, but not ham.
bookluvingbabe
Yeah, I thought that was probably the answer. We eat a lot of the Trader Joe's proscuitto but it isn't the same...
Sarah T
only from my local farmers. We belong to a CSA that raises and slaughters their own pigs. No sugar in their ham (thank goodness!).
Renee Lee
it's possible to get a cut of pork and cure it into ham yourself...but that's generally a LOT of work and sugar's usually in there as an additional preservative...so you'll have to eat what you cure quickly. I would wait...but I definitely encourage you to play around with curing. I tried to corn my own beef brisket for st patrick's day a few years ago...i'll never go back! ABS32013
You can order sugar-free ham from U.S. Wellness (same place lots of folks get sugar-free bacon).
