Homemade Applesauce - A Recipe and a Warning

Recommended Posts

Hmm, so yesterday I made homemade applesauce. I was inspired to do this because my mom was sick, and needed some mild yet tasty food to eat. Also I was thinking it would be a good side dish for my meals.

So I took around 8 gala apples, cut into quarters and cored them, and put them in a dutch oven pot with a couple inches of water and a generous sprinkling of cinnamon, put the heat on low-med and cooked them covered for about an hour and a half. Then I mashed them up with a spoon and let them simmer on low, uncovered for another half hour or so (to let the juice reduce down). YUM.

So, I took about half the batch to my mom and kept the other half for myself.

This was last night.

It's gone.

I ate some with dinner last night, some with breakfast this morning, and some with both of my lunches (I split my lunch into two meals today because the first one was kinda early). Then I found myself spoon-in-the-bottom-of-the-jar after the second lunch = loss of self control and giving into my brain's sugar tantrum.

No more Applesauce for the duration of my W30.
