Rachel7
I'm closing the books on Day 6 of my first Whole 30, and frankly an praying I'll just be able to sleep through the night. So far....? Not once. I wake around 1:30 each morning, for no apparent reason. I'm not hungry, but I do start to have anxiety about my food and my family's food. I just want to sleep! Suggestions? NoraKathleen
I am finishing day four of my second whole30, and I too, am having trouble getting to sleep! Hang in there, surviving the first week is hard as your body adjusts. You will sleep better! Last night I only slept four hours. So tonight, I avoided turning on the television, and will stop my "screen time" after this post, read, and turn off the light by 9:45. Hoping that helps! If I wake in the middle of the night, rather than tossing and turning in frustration, I just get up, get a drink of water, and do a couple of stretches to focus on breathing. My favorite is lying on the ground with straight legs up a wall. Ten breaths. No problems regarding food worries will be solved overnight, so breath and rest! Sweet dreams

missmary
Have no idea why that posted twice-sorry! Can't figure out how to delete.... Must be tired! I got it for ya. On sleep, a lot of us find magnesium to be helpful. Magnesium is a smooth muscle relaxant, and it can really help. I take it either as a powder before bed (natural calm*, the unflavored variety) or transdermally, via a hot bath in epsom salts. The hot bath doesn't hurt either. good luck! *follow directions on the bottle for dosing. too much causes loose stools (it draws water into the bowel. not life-threatening or anything, but not fun), so it is better to be conservative on dosing and see how much you need. Rachel7
I actually have some Calm in my cabinet as it was suggested by my doc to help with some tummy issues I was having. Hadn't thought to try it for sleep - great idea! Am also hoping it will address some of my restless leg stuff, which I'm hoping will also go away as I progress through this Whole 30. Thanks for your support, guys!
Nancy C
I've been taking magnesium right before bed for over a year and it helps me sleep like a baby. That being said, I too have started having sleep problems (one week in) which is the same thing that happened with my first attempt. This typically happens to me when my carbs fall below a certain level. I believe my nightly dosage is 1200 mg but I'll try increasing it to see if it helps.
