Pixiegirl
Hi! My name is Liz, and I'm starting August 1. Gosh, just typing that is a little scary! I've been low carb for a while now, so I'm looking forward to seeing what changes will happen on the Whole30. Also looking forward to more fruit! Must. Not. Go. Nuts. A little about me. I live in Japan, and teach English. I love running, but I'm really slow. I ran my first 5K and my first 10K this summer, and I'm training for a half marathon. I'm really interested to see if the Whole30 will have an effect on my running. Also interested to see what happens with my allergies! Looking forward to meeting everyone as we get ready to go on this journey!
Cassie M
Hi Liz! I'm a total newbie too - starting on August 1st. There's a whole gang of us looking to buddy up, so I feel like this will be a really great resource for motivation and support. We can do this! jenmer
Hi Liz, I'm starting on 1st August aswell. My Crossfit gym are doing a Whole 30 challenge so this has given me the kick I need to clean up my diet. I've been mostly paleoish since April 2011 but recently more 'rubbish' has started to creep into my diet so I want to get back on track. I'm excited & a little nervous. I'm based in the UK so have spent the last week trying to build up my store cupboard with compliant ingredients, it's harder trying to track things down but I'm getting there. Good Luck! magda
Hi, I'd like to do it with you guys too I tried once and fell off after a few days (day 4 I think...), but this time I'd like to give it a whole month. I have no weddings, company events, birthdays etc. planned for August, so hopefully I will be less tempted to just screw it and have a piece of cake I'm turning 30 in September, so there's definitely going to be a cake and some (a lot of ) drinks, but I think it's a good idea to do Whole30 before
Pixiegirl
Yay! This is going to be exciting! I've been waiting around for the perfect time to start the Whole30. After realizing that there is no perfect time, I decided to just go ahead and leap in with the August start. It's going to be great for all of us, I think. Magda, I love the idea of Whole30 before 30! I turned 30 last year (yikes!). Jennie- I hear you about rubbish creeping in! Cassie- I'm hoping the big group of people will help me stay on the straight and narrow - if I can think of others on the same path, maybe I won't go face first into anything unhealthy! Grace Anna Brinton
Hi there! It sounds like there is a good bunch of us all starting on Aug 1st, I am also looking around for some people to share this with! Yes I am feeling intimidated, I have trying to do the paleo diet for a month now, but have stuck to coffee, wine, and dairy. I have really wanted to cut gluten out of my diet for digestive health and that has been getting easier...slowly..... Would love to get to know you all! I live in Boston, am a chef, trying to cook healthy food for my clients:) also just about to start the health coach training program @ institute for integrative nutrition so hoping all this health info will tie together. I can def. talk recipes and cooking with anyone too- I think the commitment to do a lot more home cooking is a big challenge for alot of us who work a ton. magda
I live in Poland, I'm an IT professional thinking about changing my career to something health and fitness related. I've recently discovered my passion for cooking and now I spend most of my free time in the kitchen and most of my spare money on crazy ingredients If I could, I'd love to cook for all of you, cause I'll happily feed anyone who is not freaked out by my cooking I love all things seafood and weird taste combinations so most people roll their eyes when they see my lunch. Oh well, more for me I gave up most grains and all legumes about 3 months ago and my health has improved, but I think that a radical carb detox will do me good. Also, I've never been able to give up dairy and I think it may help with my asthma and allergies, so we'll see

magda
But I think coffee is OK? Only without milk (or maybe with coconut milk?). I find it really hard to givr up yogurt and cottage cheese. Coffee... I'm not even thinking of giving up coffee
akurtz102
Hi there! I am getting ready to start with some friends on Monday too, more for health conditions then weight loss. In fact, I'm looking for muscle gain at this point in my training! I am also looking to break my sugar habit as I love chocolate...a lot!! I would consider myself eating clean about 90% of the time, but all motivation and help/support is welcomed. I am already feeling slightly overwhelmed with it, especially since I live with someone who is not even remotely interested in doing this with me. But I know we can do this! I currently live in Texas and work for an accounting firm as I prep for graduate school, but have always been in the health industry. Its time to get back into it! I have a long commute and therefore try to prep all my meals on the weekend, but it may be a little harder now. Good luck to everyone!

magda
I just found out that I will be on a hiking trip on days 3 to 7. In some God-forsaken countryside in the mountains, where nobody probably ever heard of sweet potatoes or organic bacon Without access to my kitchen... And all that during the days when I'm "supposed" to be dying from carb flu... And Iinstead I hope to be hiking some freaking mointains, carrying my lunch on my back, because the only thing you can get up there is likely candy and soda and some junky sandwiches that I wouldn't eat even if I was eating grains And you know what? I'm going to do make it work anyway! I guess they must have eggs, canned tuna and some veggies even where I'm going

Sarah2012
I am going to start on Aug 1 too- I started a couple of weeks ago but fell off the bandwagon when I got sick. Mostly my addiction to dark choc is getting a bit out of control! It will be great to have others doing it as well.I have been mostly paleo for a few months & feel much better for it. Birdmtn
I also plan on starting on Aug. 1st. This will be my second Whole 30, first was Jan 2011. That was back in my Crossfit days with a trainer to help keep me in check. My life is very different now, I fight the gluten/dairy/sugar demons daily. I think a good clean break will help me dial in. Heres to us!!! A weekend of prep cooking is in my future. Amanda at Birdmtn
Grace Anna Brinton
Hi again! I just signed up for the WHOLE DAILY newsletter Whole9 just created, I think it is a great idea to help keep you on track- a daily "check-in" to remind you that every day counts. I have a hard time with sugar cravings too, and I get so frustrated when all of a sudden I just can't resist that dumb chocolate cookie that isn't very good anyway! I don't think my family gets what I am doing here with the Whole30, so having this online community to talk with is going to be so helpful. Is there an easier way for us all to communicate? email? facebook? I find it hard to keep up on forums sometimes....

I'm a competitive swimming and hoping to see some improvements with my swimming. I too like running but am slow. Please keep us posted on how the Whole30 works with your half-marathon training. I had planned to do one this year but kind of fell behind on my training. Maybe this will help me re-motivate myself? Good luck and see you in the forum! -Megan
Honeylou
Can I get in on this buddy system too? I started paleo and crossfit in January 2011, in anticipation of my 30th birthday. It felt amazing to turn 30 while feeling and looking better than I ever had. Of course, I want to keep it up for my 31st birthday. But I've become increasingly liberal with how I define "paleo" and need to remind myself of how great it feels to really eat clean and would love to compare notes with like-minded people for the 30 day challenge. Hi there! I'm turning 27 at end of August and would love to go into the next year feeling healthier and more in control of my diet. I started crossfit in April and it has been great for me. I would say I'm 50% paleo- having trouble with carbs and sugar and sort of dairy (I make my own yogurt and really love doing so....). But in prep leading up to Aug 1st start I have been getting alot better. Would love to stay in touch as we go thru this!
apreston
I'm in too, and could use some moral support in battling the sugar demons. I've been eating basically Whole 30 at home but letting myself eat cookies and candy at work, and it's gotten kind of out of control. I'm ready to get back on track. Melissa Ott
Hi All-- I am super excited about starting August 1st and am totally in for a buddy! A little about me-- I am a graphic designer/illustrator from Pittsburgh and I've been Paleo-ish since June 2011 and love it. I have noticed lately that I've been having some serious sugar and baked-good cravings that I'd like to kick to the curb, though. I am getting married next year in St. Lucia and my fiance and I are already working our butts off to look and feel great by the time that rolls around, and I think this will really help jumpstart my progress. One concern I'm having: I have been supplementing with BCAA powder for the last month or so and have really seen a lot of progress in terms of recovery time and strength building. The problem is, the powder itself is really, really, awfully, terribly bitter. The bottle *says* you can take mix it with water, but I honestly have no idea how anyone could manage it without gagging. I think they could use that stuff in place of charcoal to pump stomachs, it's THAT nasty. We've been taking it in 8 oz (x 2, 1 time pre-workout, 1 time post-workout, so 16 oz total per day) with Trader Joe's Chocolate Almond Milk, but seeing as sugar is not allowed at all on the Whole30, that's kind of out. Trying to figure out what my alternative might be before Wednesday rolls around! I really look forward to following this board and managing through the hurdles. Good luck, guys!
