Laurawhole30
Hi! I am 56 years old and have been on a health journey for over ten years. Most of my diet has been Paleo for the past 12 months, however during social times I tended to drink and then indulge in whatever food my friends were ordering (Def NOT PAleo or clean!). I have a several year old stomach issue that includes stomach pain following eating and triggered by many things. The pain has been intermittent and was almost non-existent while I was on the HCG protocol two years ago. Thus it made sense that diet had a direct impact on my gastro problems and i am so happy to have found Whole30. In addition I have developed arthritis in my fingers and increased intensity of pain in my shoulders. Sleep has been por prior to Whole30. Started Whole 30 8 days ago and am now feeling so much better! My stomac pain is decreased as is my arthritis and neck pain. Sleep is improved. Yeah! Today Breakfast coffee with coconut milk 2 eggs in ghee sliced thin steak - 2 oz tomatoes Lunch roast sliced cucumbers and tomatoes Dinner Baked chicken thighs Brocolli in ghee baked apple with ghee, cinnamon and roasted pecan Iced tea and lemon Because my stomach is painful if I eat too much I often wake up around 2am hungry. I have been getting up and having a small snack and falling back asleep. Last night my snack was a half a banana. I love coconut water btw. Any input is appreciated particularly around adjusting for exercise - weight trainnig and running. Thanks!
Physibeth
Welcome to the W30 and glad to hear you are already seeing improvements! Overall your meals look good. I would try to increase your vegetables if you can, especially at meal one. That baked apple seems very close to a dessert to me so it might not be really in the spirit of W30 where we ask you not to paleoize treats. Snacks should contain protein and fat. A better middle of the night snack would be a hard boiled egg. I am a little confused that you wake up hungry at 2am when you eat too much. Was that a typo? JulesinFl
I'm confused on the comment about the baked apple. How was baking the apple and make it more flavorful different from making any whole food more flavorful and enjoyable within the context of the program guidelines? I thought the idea of not taking food and making it more Paleo was related to thing like using coconut flour for muffins when muffins (grain) would not be part of the food program? Thanks. One of the goals of the program is to get away from that need for dessert after a meal. This looks like a dessert to me. If you don't think of it as a dessert than that is fine. Like I said it isn't technically against the rules (as far as I understand them - I'm new at the moderator gig) but it might not be fully in the spirit of a W30. For me personally it wouldn't be. That might not be true for you.
