dezzzydoo
Hey guys, I heard macadamia nut oil was good & I bought one while I was in Whole Foods. When I got home, I googled it and some people say you can't use it as olive oil b/c it doesn't have a high smoke point. I guess I really should have looked it up beforehand! Has anyone ever used it before and have any recommendations? Thanks!
Paichka
I got some as a "free gift" with a meat order, and I've been using it in my homemade mayo. It has a nice, nutty flavor and makes a very pretty, creamy mayo. I haven't used it to cook with, but I bet it would make a great oil base for salad dressings, drizzled on sweet potatoes or on top of soups. missmary
I'm not sure I understand your post: neither olive oil nor macadamia nut oil are good for high heat cooking. For that you want either animal fat (beef tallow or lard from well-raised pigs or duck fat or ghee) OR coconut oil. I also enjoy macadamia nut oil in mayo. Otherwise use it where you would use olive oil, in salad dressings and such.
