jlb111
Hey All , Its been a while.Completed my first and only successful "30" in April / May 2013Then in October thought about, (thought about, doesn't count as made a decision) to do another 30 but got sidetracked. And now I'm fully engaged. I feel excitied to be taking this on again and hopefully I'll be better at finding my way around this site as the support is not just important , I have found it to be the difference between success and not success. Last successful go around I had all the mood swings and challenges, along with the eventual great energy. This time I feel much more at home however I see that can translate into kind of a cavalier approach which is so dangerous for my efforts. So I plan to be rigorous and certainly give permission for anyone seeing something less than that to put a spotlight on it. I will be 71 in May. I am a sickeningly young 71 which I attribute to great genes, the gift of sobriety some 32 years ago, and a awesome higher power who floods me with grace on a daily basis. So onward and upward. MY commitment to one of my trainers is to do the Prescott whiskey road mountain bike race this year plus a Tri or 2. I figure as I get older one of these years Im going to hit the platform just because I outlived everyone else. Be good and happy
jlb111
today 01/25/2014 day 1 of second whole 30 and most likely more. But for today I'll stay in one day at a time. I've spent several days preparing and trying to remember all the rules from my first and last 30 until I decided to do this one as though it was my first. I am excited about giving and receiving support as I am deeply aware that without that I lose committment Started today with a grapefruit (couldnt remember if that was OK) and followed up with a palm size serving of chicken breast and sauteed in cocanut oil spinach I do Fish Oil every morning so I will have to remember to include that in my log. As the day goes on I will report later and Im stoked to be getting the daily help again.

Your food this morning was fine but we would prefer you save your fruit for the end of the meal lest it push vegetable off your plate if you decide you are full. You possibly could have done a little more fat at your first meal unless you poured all the cooking oil from the pan to the plate.
jlb111
Thanks for the feedback I do a significant amount of omega 3 fish oil in morning along with cocoanut oil for cooking to balance my fat intake I sure get the fruit before veggies or protein and how that could effect cleaning up the plate As I have experienced it . I will adjust for sure I am so excited for day 2 And the ground meat alternatives Off the recovery then hitting the mountain on the bike
jlb111
DAY 2, BREAKFAST : 2 OZ BEEF TENDERLOIN SWEET POTATO FISH OIL SUPPLEMENT LUNCH WAS A MIX OF LUNCH AND DINNER 4 OZ OF BEEF IN SALAD MIX OF VEGGIE GREENS AND TOMATOES AND ONIONS GOT SIDEWAYS AS TO DINNER AND SKIPPED IT. NOT A GOOD PLAN JUST HAD ZERO HUNGER AFTER AFTERNOON MEAL AND DIDN'T WANT TO EAT JUST TO BE EATING. I RECALLED LAST WHOLE 30 THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND I HAD TO WATCH MORE CAREFULLY MY TENDENCY TO NOT EAT. THIS TIME AROUND I AM PLANNING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE GREAT RECIPIES FOUND THROUGH THIS PROGRAM AND I KNOW I;LL NEED THAT AND THE FEEDBACK TO "STAY THE COURSE"
jlb111
starting day 3 breakfast 1/4 ground chicken with apple slices and cinnamon and tumeric 1/2 avacado with olive oile and vinegar 1 egg over top all done in cocanut oil
Physibeth
Don't let fruit push vegetables off your plate at meal 1. And yes please try not to skip meals. The hunger will recover.
jlb111
ANOTHER KIND OF WEIRD DAY HAVING TO FORCE MYSELF TO EAT. I DON,T RECALL THIS HAPPENING LAST 30 BUT I'm SURE EACH CIRCUMSTANCE IS DIFFERENT AT SOME LEVEL. I GOT SUPER BUSY THIS MORNING AND BEFORE I KNEW IT, IT WAS 10:30 AND I HAD NOT EATEN. I DID HAVE MY FISH OIL WHICH IS A STAPLE FOR ME FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS AND I WOULD NEVER ABANDON. HOWEVER I DIDN'T FEEL HUNGER WHICH ISNT UNUSUAL FOR ME AND I DIDN'T PAY ATTENTION. SO FOR MY LUNCH BRUNCH I HAD A LARGE SALAD WITH LETTUCE TOMATOE A COUPLE OF HARD BOILED EGGS WITH TURKEY AND COMPLIANT BACON FROM SPROUTS. THE EVENING MEAL CONSISTED OF 6 OZ OF CHICKEN, 1/4 OF YAM ALONG WITH A BUNCH OF CAULIFLOWER. AND FINISHING WITH A GRAPEFRUIT. CERTAINLY NOT A PRISTINE DAY OF 30 EATING BUT COMPLIANT. MY ENERGY LEVEL SEEMS TO BE STAYING PRETTY HIGH , AND BECAUSE OF THE COMMITTMENT TO A BETTER AND MORE CONSCIOUS EATING REGIME I SEEM TO HAVE BEGUN TO REGAIN MY WORKING OUT ENTHUSIASM. jlb111
good start to the day; except for the early morning banana before lap swim. back at home for a breakfast of: ground chicken 1/4 lb tomatoes yams spinach and a few jalapenos topped off with a couple of teaspoons of Omega 3 fish oil. And Im ready to slay the dragon today. Last time at 5 days far different than this time. Although tummy a bit queasy nothing like it was last April in the first 30. I am grateful for that and a bit wondering why but; think I won't look this gift horse in the mouth.

I notice a lot of lettuce in the past few days. Some folks aren't good with raw veggies. Maybe try switching to all cooked and see if that helps alleviate your stomach cramps? jlb111
great feedback I hadnt considered that. Thanks a bunch and of the cooked veggies Ive been doing they have been mosy the broccoli and cauliflower varieties which can be a bit cramping for me cooked or raw. That and the yams, and different types of lettuce have been the menu. Im driving to Laguna Beach to see some grandbabies this afternoon and salads are what hold me together "on the road". so I'd better reconsider my menu choices. this morning started with ground chicken seasoned to a chorizo flavor with small amount of apple cut in and a generous portion of sweet potatoe. Again I want to celebrate just working to stay compliant and disciplined in whole 30 has shown up in my business behavior along with working out committment. Im even feeling a bit less codependent with my spouse, A gift I didn't see coming. I have been stuck at times in needing her approval in every thing I do and this eating regime to a wanna be vegetarian can seem pretty "out there" and she is more than comfy at letting me know that. However , for me, I am very clear that this IS my path to better health. And for that awareness, I am very grateful. Thanks all for so much unconditional support. jlb111
I think I need to step up my label reading a bit more. I liver paste made at Sprouts and checked the other day to find there is a tiny amount of sugar in the making much to my chagrin. No paste for me. But it did make me think I have not been as diligent in the grass fed department either and wondering if that could be part of the reason that my withdrawl symptoms are so much less dramatic than the April 30 I did , that perhaps I am not being as compliant as I should be. For instance yesterday I had two not three meals. We had an emergency day where I had to come back from Ca. to get my wife on a plane to Denver where one of our grandbabies was put into a hospital with RSV and the day got so upside down I don't remember if I even had lunch. I do recall vividly wanting to act out with food for much of the day and am grateful that I have tools that helped that not become a reality My dinner choice was to slow cook a 6 oz pork chop in a bit of coconut water with a small amount of apple slices , onion and included in the pot was a bit of cauliflower and 1/3 yam. Having the left over for breakfast and feeling very positive about the days food planning and know that my concerns for my grandson need not manifest in bad choices for my health. Wish all well today and need to remember I am in charge of my attitude and behaviors today and that all else is totally out of my control.
jlb111
Ok today Day 10. Should have known better than wonder where withdrawal symptoms were hiding. Tired kinda weird dizzy Lucky I'm the boss. Laid in bed with doggies wondering if anyone got the license number of the truck than ran over me Are left over chicken and sweet potatoe Yum? Salad / spinach / yam / chicken/ yum ? For dinner I think I could do this eating regime just great if I didn't have to eat Probably not the best plan Love to all
jlb111
Day 11 Still feeling kind of a low level anxiety With a bit of nervous energy Way better than yesterday's lay around Like a whipped pup Went for physical and all systems looked good Seemed thyroid a tad sluggish So more excercize add in some extra supplements And for a 70 year old I'm at the top of the Tier. Breakfast consisted of Ground chicken skillet with bunch of spinach Half a yam And I think I'm ready to turn the jets up with More compliance and some new recipes I'm going to get the success guide and well fed 2 Off to office Happy trails
jlb111
Day 15. Out visiting grandbabies in Laguna All my children workout/highly health food conscious so very on board with food choices Makes for great environment Strict grass fed choices difficult for me while traveling which means reliance on raw and sweet potatoes. Still yummy tho
jlb111
Starting day 16 Awoke this morning feeling great about my resolve. Was out to dinner lady night with a quick visit with grand kids to Dave and busters Truley and experience typically way out of my comfort zones But I seemed to be able to maintain a modecum Of sanity through all the noise and was highly aware of my habit of "eating at stressors" Avoided the not to intense temptations and after a steak salad at the Charthouse that I all but watched them prepare , got home feeling great and not stuffed or the product of wrong food choices . I know you guys know this already But that's an A + feeling for me. I have noticed an unusual interest in deserts / anything sugared . Sweets never been a big thing except in the way back old days when I was experiencing "The munchies" but that ones been gone for 30+ years thanks be to God, so this sweet thing is interesting, but as long as I'm not romancing it Or like they say in recovery. "Feeding the black dog" , I seem to be managing the desires well. I'm delving deeper into the whole 9 writings and feel hugely grateful for all of the people who have come before me See ya
jlb111
Im starting day 17 and feeling like ramping up a bit. I notice this time I am more cavalier about my grabbing food habit. That is eating on the run. And as Ive been reading more from the whole 9 blog I am becoming aware thatmuch of the way I do life is crisis management which Im sure is not great for cortisol production. So time to slow it down and be "mindful" a handful of compliant chicken as I run past the fridge is not going to get me what Im after. jlb111
I think this is day 20 and Im feeling a shift in physical reactions. Not quite sure how to explain it but Im guessing this way of eating ( healthy) is a great fit for me and I feel balanced. There is probably some weight loss which is great and without obsession but its something more intangible that I cant quite describe . It manifest itself in walking taller , terrific energy, and although I do have some financial challenges, they are just that , challenges, not nightmares. This thread is probably not where to discuss this if I want feedback or just generally want to celebrate, and I do, with the communityBreakfast was compliant turkey bacon with an egg a gob of spinachand 1/3 sweet potatoe. My last whole 30 I stuck pretty much with a very simple menu and that worked for me with my schedule and lifestyle. This time I am planning on running this adventure pretty dang pristine into late April or early May which is when my next grandbaby is due , my 32nd sobriety birthday, abd My 71st belly button birthday. Aint it grand! SO this time I am going to expand my cooking prowess and that has taken me deeper into the writings from many contributors here; and I am thrilled with what I am experiencing. This site and you folks are a wealth of great "stuff" and Im rolling around in it. I have been a development junkie and workout fanatic for much of my life and Im one young 70. MY plan is to get younger just for the hell of it. HUgs to all
jlb111
day 31, finished with this segment now onward to a whole 90. I need to get some direction from moderators regarding ongoing compliance. It seems that now is the time to focus on broadening my meal choices and I'm excited about some new cook books and gearing up more for working out. Im not sure where to access and post for this continuing adventure. So I guess I just amble around in the forums checking it out. I weighed today and was down about 7 lbs from 214 to 207. My last whole 30 I dropped I believe 12 lbs. But I may have been running more. Whatever Im happy to be on my way to another month and more learning about myself and expanding my horizons
