Day 29 and right on the cusp of my first Whole 30. We are extending it to 40 of course because we joined the August Whole 30. I however, will definitely be celebrating the accomplishment of reaching 30 days.

Hi Lola - I am glad the vines worked. I got ton of studying done yesterday. I am almost finished with all the prep work for my big exam. I rewarded myself last night and watched The Hunger Games with my SO. She surprised me and brought it home. I read the series and have been dying to see the movie. It was good. Me too on the meds!

Hi Ren - thanks for the support. It sounds like we are all studying, good luck with yours too. Yes, I need to look at some more recipes to.

For breakfast yesterday we had a very tough breakfast sirloin, it was so tough I fed it to my dogs and made some eggs. I also had some brussels and an apple. For lunch we had organic beef franks and I made a delicious salad with a mixture of spring greens and romaine, tomatoes, carrots, yellow pepper, onions, mushrooms, zucchini, and olives. For dinner my SO made a wonderful roasted chicken (her first), some mixed veggies, and a peach. It was yum.

My blood pressure and blood sugar are still doing great. Blood sugar was 107 this morning and blood pressure was 105/58. I have decided I am going to start on magnesium and see what happens.

Life is good!

Have a fabulous day!

Day 30! Well Boys and Girls I made it! - they do not have a smiley face with a happy dance so this will have to suffice!

I cannot tell you how happy I feel on this my Day 30! I am so proud of myself and my SO for all the fabulous changes we have made in our lives over the last month. Just think a whole month with no sugar, no dairy, no grains, - well no crap! It is also a month with out eating out once, which in our case is just a plain out-and-out miracle. I have always enjoyed cooking but I have discovered a love and talent for cooking that I did not know I had. I have created some awesome dishes this month. I have also cooked several things I have never cooked before and eaten several things I have never eaten before,

I feel so full of promise and hope for the future. It is like someone came in and took the blinders off. I feel healthy and am becoming more fit by the day. I am doing things that I have not done in ages both physically and mentally. My relationship with my SO has grown and we are connecting like we did when we first met. We have always had a strong relationship but this process has somehow enhanced it. We actually started the Whole 30 on the eve of our 16th anniversary and used that to commit to the process of becoming healthier. I feel like we are on the road to a very different and happier life.

I think one thing I have learned over the last month is that I am stronger than I thought I was. I have learned that I can live without all that crap in my life and in my body. I have learned that I actually like life so much better without it. I also learned that all the sugars and bad carbs is an addiction. When you are on them it is like taking drugs or drinking because you do not think clearly - they make you want more. However, I have realized I do not need them. This has been such an important process for me and I am so grateful that my SO discovered this and shared it with me. I am so grateful that she kept talking about it and finally convinced me to go down this road. If you had told me a year ago that I would not be eating bread, sugar, and milk and that I would be happy about it - I would have told you that you were crazy. Thank you Riverjack! 143.

Whole 30 and loving it!

We need more smileys! Where's the one that shows a blush?!!

In truth, it probably took us a couple of years or more to reach this point. I 'blame' it on my brother, who has been eating gluten-free and some version or another of primal/paleo/locavore etc ever since my sister-in-law was diagnosed with Celiac. I've watched him go from a middle-age spread to his high-school cross country track fitness. A year ago we were lucky just to get started with gluten-free; I still remember our carb binge the day before we started (come to think of it, didn't we have one of those in July right before our Whole 30?)

It's been an amazing journey, all told! Can't wait to see what's just around the next corner...

Day 31 of 40

Thanks all for the congrats! I could not have done it without all my Whole 30 Buddies! :)

Feeling great today and full of energy. I had to really laugh, here I have gone the entire Whole 30 without dreaming about food. Well, last night I dreamed I found giant chocolate chip cookies in my house. They were in this big glass case like they were on display and taunting me. It seems they were left overs from a big party. There were other cookies to but those were the focal point. I said "What are these still doing here? Get them out of my house now, I cannot stand looking at them!" At least I did not eat them. In fact in my dream I was quite appalled and wanted nothing to do with them.(big LOL)

So, yesterday for breakfast we had some more of my latest breakfast casserole, which consists of eggs, hot breakfast sausage (compliant), bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach (yummy). I also had a pear. For lunch I made a big salad with spring mix, romaine, tomatoes, mushrooms, carrots, zucchini, spicy bean sprouts, avocado, and left over roasted chicken. For dinner last night I made cod cooked in collard leaves with smokey paprika, and salt & pepper. I also made a sweet potato and apple hash which turned out yummy. The collards gave the fish flavor but they were a bit tough and not too tasty. Kaye has declared she does not like collards (lol). However, her veggie eating has come so far from when we first met, which consisted of broccoli and a ... broccoli.

I spoke with the nurse practitioner yesterday and she said my blood sugar and blood pressure readings are AWESOME! We talked about me getting off one of my diabetic medications soon - SCORE! I told her my plan was to get off of all of them and she said she thinks I can do it if I keep this up.

I passed my test and think that I aced my class. So, I would Day 30 a success!

Have a super fantastic day! :P

Day 32 of 40!

Hi all and thanks for the support and feedback.

Yesterday I made a egg scramble with leftover sweet potato and hamburger hash; I added kale and seasoning. It turned out great. For lunch SO made us hamburgers wrapped in romaine with tomatoes, mushrooms, and mustard. On the side we had a few olives, a pickle, cauliflower, and carrots. It was so good. For dinner I made bbq chicken and Kaye made zucchini noodles. We had berries to top it off with cinnamon, coconut flakes, and a few pecans.

I am feeling great. We have planned our first re-introduction - it will be dairy on day 41, then we will go right back to Whole 30.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day! :)

Isn't it crazy how realistic the dreams seem, don't you think?!? Congrats on your great W30 results. Double congrats on your test results... and keep up your amazing optimism. It's quite infectious, and I LOVE it! Super awesome news about the meds. Well done my friend, well done!

Faith,

Super happy for you and your SO! Thanks for keeping us updated on your progress. Will you come cook for me? Your recipes are simply devine. I'm going to share your success with my hubby (who refused to do this--although he has to at dinner time  ) to see if he will do another 30 with me (after I finish the reintroduction week). I would love it if he could reverse his diabetes!

Way to go,

Nikol

Day 33 0f 40!

Hello everyone. Feeling good today. I found out that I did make an A! Hurray!.

Lola - it is true how some dreams seem so real. Thanks for the great feedback. I can always count on you! :)

Nikol - So good to hear from you. I just posted in your latest thread on Join the Whole 30! Congratulations to you - what awesome results you had. Wow, 22 pounds. I wish I could cook for everyone (lol). I thought I had lost contact with you because I did not see a response to the thread we were on. I am glad you found my log. I hope your hubby will join in he will be amazed at how good it can make you feel.

Yesterday for breakfast we had egg casserole for breakfast and a peach. For lunch we had a sort of pulled together lunch, I had beef franks with veggies. For dinner I made pot roast with carrots and onions. It was so good. We also had green beans.

I really moving so much more than I used to and it feels amazing. I have been doing Tai Chi. I am so surprised at how much more I can do these days. I love it!

Have a super day!

Day 35! :)

Hi Lola - Thanks. I was really proud of that A and of what I have accomplished this month. They are both things I have been trying to accomplish for many years. The A in algebra is a first since I have struggled with that subject for most my life. And, as for the Whole 30, I think you already know what that means to me.

Yesterday I made my Italian Egg Loaf - yummy. We had that for breakfast and a bowl of berries. For lunch we had leftover roast with carrots and onions. For dinner we had stir fry. Kaye marinated beef flank and then cooked it with mixed veggies. It was yummy.

Well today I am comfortably wearing a pair of pants that I could not fit into before. Yeah! I thought well I will just try them and wallah! I am feeling great. I have been sleeping so well, all the way through the night. I wake right up in the morning and am ready to go at the crack of dawn.

Have a great day all!

Faith :P

Day 36 of 40! B)

Good Morning Everyone! I am feeling great. Breakfast is done, the dogs are fed, and the kitchen is clean. We took the dogs to the dog park this morning and they had so much fun. Sophie and Tessa walk every day but Bandit does not get to got out very often so this was a treat for him. We do not worry about him as much because he gets plenty of exercise running up and down the stairs all day and playing in the back yard. Anyway, it was a fun family outing. The trip was extra exercise for me but it did not tire me out the way I thought it would. So, the day is off to a good start.

Yesterday we had Italian egg loaf for breakfast with a banana. For lunch we had roasted chicken, sauteed cabbage, and I had a little salad as well. For dinner we had hamburgers with a romaine lettuce bun (tomatoes, Onions, pickles, mustard, and avocado inside) and some baked sweet potato. We ate dinner really early because we were planning a gaming session with friends - so we had a snack later of a few cherries and nuts.

The coolest thing, they have recently opened an old fashioned drive-in theater here in town. We got tickets for September 8th to see Grease. We are so excited, They even have the speakers that hook to your car window and a car hop. We are planning a little splurge that night since our official Whole 30 will be over but we will be right back on the next day. It will be so much fun. I come from a big family so the drive-in was a big deal to us. We were military so if we were going to get to go to the movies that is the only way we could really afford it for the whole family. We would all pile in the station wagon with big brown grocery sacks of popcorn and a cooler of sodas and head out to a Saturday night double feature. It was so much fun. We kids had the best time. Of course we were all asleep by the end of night. So, this will bring back some good memories for me.

Lola, I hope you enjoy the butternut squash and pineapple bake. I will look forward to seeing how you and hubby like it.

Have a fantastic day! :D

You guys literally make me laugh out loud! I love it.... and what is that saying - happy puppies, happy life - or something like that!!

OMG, the butternut squash, pineapple bake was TOTALLY AWESOME. The coconut flakes toasted up nicely, I over-ate tonight!, I REALLY over-ate tonight! It's been over 30 days since I've felt stuffed like this! MMM, even just writing about it makes me want to run back up stairs to get some more! Thank you so much for sharing that recipe...

That is the total coolest thing! I love the drive-in. Larry won't go(he falls asleep anyway), so I take my neices. It sounds like tons of fun.. good for you guys. What a great flick to see in true retro style... Grease was the very first movie I saw on the big screen! My brother was going on a date, and my mom made him bring me, and he made me sit in a row all by myself! HA, ha, I wonder if he remebers that. I hope you have popcorn! If I ever snack again, popcorn will be my go to snack.

Thanks for sharing Faith, hope you had a fantastic day too!

The "Vintage Radio" package that we got (yeah, preordering drive-in tickets) gets us a prime spot with a vintage radio window speaker (and fm radio coverage if you want...), carhop service with your food delivered on a window tray, unlimited popcorn :o and two boxes of movie candy  (and they do have some vintage candies...) Needless to say we'll be off-roading so that we can get the full retro experience! I'm probably going to take some sparkling water along - just can't do the sodas anymore even if I wanted to - and probably some decent paleo snacks to keep me from overindulging in illicit foods! However, there may be a snowcone in my near future.....

And chances are I'll be suffering for it all the next day! But every now and then the discomfort is worth the experience - as long as it's ONLY every now and then.
