rachelzhumphrey
I finally convinced the hubby to join me on the Whole30, and as of day 18 he started to get another gout attack. I feel terrible! Any advice? Anyone with gout on here able to share their story? He's back to drinking Apple Cider Vinegar, but not sure if he should abandon this experiment. Many thanks for any advice you can give. Renee Lee
You don't need to abandon the experiment, but you may need to tweak some of the types of foods he's eating. Robb's got a couple of podcast comments about it, but the basics would be to maybe go a little lighter on the protein, a little heavier on the fats, and definitely avoid fructose at all costs, and maybe avoid some foods high in oxalates (spinach, other green leafy veggies that we usually tell you to go crazy with) Check out podcast episodes 65, 84 and 18! Flynn
Hi! My husband also has gout so I can sympathize...it's very hard to watch the pain it causes! The main things that have helped my husband are cutting out red meat, organ meat and all seafood. Look up high purine foods and those are the ones to let go. If he also has autoimmune or kidney problems it's a good idea to check with a doctor because they can give medications to assist kidneys that aren't up to par on elimination that really help to shorten the episode. Also, cherries are really good for gout so eating many of these every day has helped a lot. Good luck!

How do I find this podcast? Is it still posted? Trying to tweak my diet for this exact reason, and I'm struggling. Had just successfully wrapped my head around the W30 meal template with great success, but on Day 27 had the worst gout flare up every and 2+ weeks later I'm still struggling with it. Thanks! The podcast would be Robb Wolf's -- here's the complete list, you'll just have to scroll through to find the ones referenced, or maybe google Robb Wolf gout and see if there's anything newer, since this is four years old now.
