Skiley
I plan on sticking to the basics of the whole30 for the most part once I've finished on Jul 30th. I've seen all the gluten free pasta, rice, crackers etc.---should I be buying that stuff? Or just the regular varieties? Kind of confused!!!! Meg Hamilton
Color me confused, but if you're going to stick to the basics of Whole30, then why would you even want to buy pasta, rice & crackers again? All grains cause inflammation in our bodies, not just wheat.
Adagio
I've been gluten free due to severe gluten intolerance for 3 years. Those gluten-free pastas, crackers, etc. are NO BETTER than regular pasta and crackers. The only difference is that they are made with rice, corn, bean, or white potato flour, tons of sugar and inflammatory oils. Rice and corn are grains. Beans are legumes. Those foods are full of sugars, inflammatory oils and preservatives. I don't know what your goals are, but if you want to stay healthy, then stick with a Paleo diet. It doesn't have to be strict Whole30. A Paleo diet is completely grain, legume, and sugar-free.
Renee Lee
My opinion, if you want to kick up your heels once in a very long while, sticking gluten free to make it "less bad" is a good option. If you read whole9's post on riding your own bike and their post on cheating, decide how worth is it to you? Gluten is very rarely worth it for me. My mother and grandfather make this amazing baked macaroni and cheese from scratch. It is one of the best things ever, (and probably one of the main reasons why I was 240lbs in high school, btw) and on the rare occasions that it gets cooked in my family these days, they make it with gluten free pasta instead. That, coupled with me only having a little serving, instead of eating an entire pound of pasta (this actually happened once), allows me to enjoy some of my favorites in a less harmful and much less disordered way.
