Phanniemae
Hello from New Mexico! My W30 starts first thing tomorrow.
Phanniemae
So far, so good. Steak and eggs for breaky. Mulay's Italian sauage (no crap, ethically-raised piggies!) for lunchner. Mug of bone broth that has been in my freezer for too long (still super nourishing tho!) I did go through a major emotional battle early this afternoon (hormones, nicotine/caffeine withdrawal, etc.) Fortunately, it's a Saturday, so I talked myself into a bath... Which made everything infinitely better. It makes me wonder why I don't do nice stress-relieving things like that more often. Heading over to the bf's soon. I am impervious to any tempting treats he may have!
Phanniemae
Yay! Two days down! Breakfast and lunch are made and packed for the week ahead. Fortunately, its a four-day work week for me! Is it wrong to already be looking forward to that three day weekend? I also quit caffeine for this w30. I've done it before while working at my previous job (which was crazy stressful/hectic), so I think I should be fine this week at work...but I do worry about getting "spacey" without caffeine. I have been having issues with scalp psoriasis. So, I'm doing a week or two with no eggs and limited nightshades (I can't say no to pepper!). I read on paleo hacks that this may help... I'm not clear on the reasoning, if anyone can help : ) So, here's what I made for four breakfasts and lunches: 3 drumsticks/day Healthy cut of flank steak I also bought cauliflower and kale, but haven't done anything with them yet. Other than that, I'm loaded up on Just Jerky and seasnax. Does anyone else make breaky/lunch for the entire week and hope that it tastes good?! Phanniemae
Today was very low key. Sausage for breaky and lunchner. I also was craving something sweet when I went groc shopping, so I picked up blackberries and scarfed those. I'm not planning on including sweeter things in my diet on a regular basis. I have a ton of energy right now and am in a great mood. I've gotta say that is a huge change from where I've been lately. I know I've got some hurdles coming in the next few days tho!! megmac
I have to give you extra kudos for getting on this plan...IN NEW MEXICO! I lived in Abq for 5 years, and left a good 20 lbs heavier than when I got there. For me, it's the best food on earth. Fortunately green chile is compliant; I just made green chile stew (grass fed ground beef, onion, green chile (I buy it frozen from Hatch every year) and organic crushed tomatoes) and it's feeding me for lunch all week. I am headed back for vacation in September and have been thinking a lot about what I'm going to choose to go "off roading" for. Since you can't get that food anywhere else on earth (and I've tried), I am going to need to do a Whole30 right before AND right after my trip! You sound like you're doing great! Get yourself a good Paleo cookbook-that has helped me get to 17 days without boredom. Be strong!
Phanniemae
Next week's lunches will have to be what you're having! That sounds nom! Typically I'll make scrambled eggs with green chile. Although this week, I'm trying something different for breakfast. Definitely hard to do W30 here when going out to eat! At home is a bit easier : )
Phanniemae
Day 3: I almost forgot to check in today. Everything went pretty smoothly. Nasty headache after lunch, but I was expecting much worse after the prior week's caffeine-a-thon. I stuck to my pre-made meals plus pemmican and seasnax. My co-workers and I all went for a nice walk before lunch. One woman started her Medifast diet today. Poor thing!!! I wanted to tell her about all the wonderfully yummy and filling things that I'll be eating on my w30... But I better stick to it first and let her ask me what I've been doing. I put my family through five years of me being veg/vegan and I definitely learned my lesson when it comes to changing other people's food choices. Funny now that I'm an enthusiastic carnivore... Phanniemae
I was not pleased to roll out of bed at 5 am this morning and worried that I may not be getting enough calories. I just finished my flank steak for breaky and my co-worker, who reminds me of Santa Clause, commented on how freakin delicious it smells! Yeah, this food is the bomb! I'm feeling more energetic now : D We'll see what the rest of the day has in store! Did I mention that I'm caff-free (so far!). Truly Ah-mazing
megmac
I have felt really good and energetic through this journey (I'm on day 18 I think) until last Saturday. I got up to go to a 9am class at the gym and felt like I got hit by a truck. That night I ate a WHOLE sweet potato (not sure why I was trying to avoid them) with clarified butter, and felt like a champ Sunday morning. Sunday night I made a pot roast with turnips and parsnips, and ate some of those too. Again, I have felt great ever since. My lesson was not to be afraid of the good carbs. I will make a point of getting them in a few times a week.

Phanniemae
Major emotional turmoil this afternoon... I ate my steak, drumsticks, seasnax, and pemmican. A friend gave me cuke slices. Later I snacked on an orange. Somewhere after lunch I started obsessing about these random bad things going on in my life and couldn't get passed it! Maybe this is where vending machine snacks would normally step in and "fix" things? Yes! Good carbs are good! I'm glad you two mentioned this... I tend to go carb-phobic on W30. But a few good carbs might just save me : )

Jeanye Mercer
PhannieMae - Be sure to take a good look at the Whole30 meal template. and spend lots of time on the Whole30 blog. Each meal should consist of a great protein, LOTS of veggies and a healthy fat. The Whole30 is just the beginning. You want to find a sustainable eating plan for life. I suggest you focus on upping your veggie intake significantly. One of my favorite breakfasts is meat and spinach muffins. http://www.theclothesmakethegirl.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/meatandspinachmuffins_wellfed.pdf. May days I have a salad with my breakfast or I have whatever combo of meats and veggies I had for dinner the previous evening. Beefing up on your veggies and healthy fats should take care of many of the issues you have mentioned. Best wishes!
Phanniemae
Hi Terra! I live in Santa Fe. Whereabouts are you? I've only found that sauage at Matural Grocers...nom! Thanks, Jeanye! I do need to add more veggies. I feel that there is no lack for recipes online, just a matter of me deciding on one and going with it!

LizzyF
Hi Phanniemae. I am new here too! You are ahead of me though! I just had to let you know I am laughing so hard over your conversation with your friend about the beer. I stopped drinking alcohol several years ago and it truly is funny the things people say when we turn down drinks! That sausage egg and chilli thing looks awesome. Phanniemae
It was really funny! : ). I 'm most nervous about not drinking/moderating drinking after the w30... It really escalates for me. Maybe I just need to keep that out of the mix.
Phanniemae
Day 8: Repurposed gelato container (for guacamole!) Ok, I'm starting to realize that I have a problem. More sausage and eggs for brunch. It's just so easy and delicious! Dinner: Salmon cooked in ghee, guac, tomatoes Kombucha The day's not over yet... Phanniemae
OMG! G was helping me search for a kale recipe and found one with bacon. Nope, can't do bacon cuz of sugar. He continued to search... And then uttered the following: "I may have to try this Whole30 thing." Ahhh!!!!! What?!?! I turned away and was careful to not be too excited!! I didn't want to pry, so i have no idea what he saw online that triggered this declaration. Even if he never follows through, his admission that its not completely bat$hit crazy is reassuring : ) He's definitely enjoying our weekend breakfasts. Today, we added tomatoes and kimchi to the round-up:
