we've had some really delicious food at home, so that's nice and easier to keep with the programm, I just find it hard to socialise...

Sunday afternoon we went to a friends, and everybody was having crèpes with Nutella except me :(

No temptations for me today, thank goodness! We have little bags sitting on our desks we each decorated Monday. Plenty of sweets have gone into them, but I've been letting a couple of my co-workers have whatever they want. Taking a couple treats home to my husband. I've never been a fan of chocolate, tho, so not too hard to resist.

I feel bad for my husband. I've made treats for him and am taking what I've collected at work to him, but I've basically left him in a lurch for getting me anything. He doesn't buy me flowers because I'm allergic. He usually ends up getting me some kind of treat and a breve. No-nos for me this year. Last year we went to a fancy restaurant (first time ever), but this year I'm more limited on where I can eat without worrying about accidentally cheating.

I'm enjoying eating healthy and not feeling like crap, but I think he feels a bit left in a lurch because Valentine's doesn't leave many choices in the way of Whole 30 or paleo.

my boyfriend got me a bag of tea for Valentine's :)

well I am a big tea addict, so he knew I would be happy with that!

thanks for the recipe, I love squash soup and I love roasted squash, so roasted squash soup should be excellent!

I might try it tonight, there is a butternut squash waiting at home!

One thing : I read somewhere you could eat the skin on the butternut squash because it(s quite thin, I don't bother with the skin now, I just eat it, especially if it's blended in soup... Less work too!

i wish i had known that - it was such a pain scooping the flesh out of that thing.  next time i'll leave it in.

throw some shredded chicken and and extra scoop of coconut milk in when you eat it - that's what's in my lunch box today!

day 9 and so far so good - husband is still on board with me too.  i think it would be impossible if he weren't doing this diet with me.  i feel good and look good and keep crossing my fingers that my asthma will see some sort of improvement...if anything it's a little worse!  workouts are still strong.

and yes, we do rock, for sticking to it!

How are others doing?  Still going strong?  I'm feeling okay on Day 9, save for a little bloating - but that seems to be on track with the day-by-day calculation.

By way of accountability, thought it would be good to post yesterday's and today's eats here!  If anyone sees anything I could be doing better, please let me know - I know I don't have the hang of this perfectly yet.  Case in point, having to have a snack yesterday - I guess I should have eaten more at lunch?

Monday

b - egg bake with lamb chorizo (from the farmer's market!), kale, peppers, and onions, 1/2 avocado with compliant salsa, banana, coffee

l - small sweet potato with 1 tsp ghee, compliant chicken sausage, brussels sprouts tossed in compliant homemade vinaigrette with hazelnut oil, mustard, and vinegar, seltzer

s - hard boiled egg, 1/3 cup roasted butternut squash, 3 roasted pepper halves, 10 olives

d - romaine salad with homemade pork carnitas, 1/2 avocado, and onion, roasted carrots, banana/coconut milk puree

Today

b - egg bake with lamb chorizo (from the farmer's market!), kale, peppers, and onions, 1/2 avocado with compliant salsa, banana, coffee

l - paleo tomato soup, 1 compliant chicken sausage, brussels sprouts tossed in compliant homemade vinaigrette with hazelnut oil, mustard, and vinegar, apple, seltzer

d - planning to have roasted chicken leg quarters with sweet potatoes and red cabbage

Hey Emily,

Your food looks to be inline with the rules. Not that I'm an expert. I'm not sure what you're trying to get out of this, but if it's weight loss at all, I might suggest limiting your fruit and sweet potato/bns consumption. I have the same cravings but the last time I did this, I leaned a lot on those things because I like them so much and they're so familiar to me and remind me of eating the carbs I used to eat, but they didn't give me the best results. I know this journey is about a lot more than weight, but in order to help out with that, I would suggest no more than 1x a day have those things. That's at least what I'm trying this time. 1 serving of fruit and 1 serving of "potatoy" type starch per day.

If you find you're too hungry without it, I would suggest eating a bit more veggies and fats. But, like I said, I'm not an expert. I just am telling you what I heard from my Crossfit box nutritionists the last time I did this. Again though if you're not trying to lose weight don't worry about it.

Anyway, day 10 for me. Super tired all day again today. Feeling less bloated, but still can tell my stomach is learning to eat this way. Looking forward to pushing through. I think week 2 is the hardest week.

Hope everyone else is staying strong!!

This is a tough one, chelle, and varies A LOT from person to person. Going lower carb may help with weight loss, if your body tolerates low carb well. For other people, lower carb causes all kinds of issues, disrupting hormones, impacting mood, and potentially stalling weight loss. It depends on your context, and your activity levels. We recommend including some starchy carbs, and to gauge how much by how you feel, so, maybe try limiting to one sweet potato or other starchy carb per day, and if you feel good carry on, but if you don't feel good, just add more until you hit the sweet spot for your own context.

Hi everyone, I also started the 10th.

I want to comment on "the weird chin acne". I have always had pretty clear skin with the occasional zit here and there. But right now I have an insane breakout all around my chin too! What is the deal?

So far I have been pretty good with energy during the day, but by 9:00 at night, I am ready for bed. I even fell asleep in my son's bed while reading him a story. And then last night I got the "weird food dream". I was shoveling slices of white bread in my mouth, chewing them, then spitting them back out. really weird.

Also, yesterday (day 9) the sugar dragon reared its ugly head. I have been absolutely fine without it until last night. I think maybe I had low blood sugar or something though, because we had a really intense workout at my crossfit gym yesterday.

On the plus side; I have already notice my stomach going down a bit which is great motivation!

Good Luck everyone, I hope you all have a great remaining 20 days!

I just joined this forum and I'm excited that so many people started on the same day as I did! So far so good although I still have strong wine cravings in the evening - Valentines Day nearly broke me!

OMG - I have the "weird chin acne" too and was even thinking I needed to go to dermatologist.  Could it be due to increased egg consumption? Maybe one of the experts can help fill us in b/c it's killing me - I've nver had a break out on my chin like this!

I am so proud to be 1/3 of the way done!  I was in the "it's not worth it" stage last night and this morning but reading all these posts has given me encouragement to keep on going!

Happy Day 11!  Anyone else feel like they are coming down with something?  I have a scratch in my throat and I'm not hungry at all - forcing myself to eat some salad for lunch right now.  Is this "low carb flu?"  Or am I actually getting sick?  UGGHH!!  the thought of eating proteins right now grosses me out.

Welcome JenH and SaraTman!

Happy Day 11 or in my case 12!

Glad everyone seems to be sticking with it. WifeBando, sorry to hear that you're not feeling well. That stinks. I'm not feeling that way, thank goodness, but I, actually, have noticed a couple good changes.

First of all, less cravings. They were pretty strong there for a while, but now I'm not thinking about sugar or other food like I used to be.

Secondly, I am noticing that I require less food now to get full. I made my normal portions today and only was hungry for half of them. I think that's probably a good thing.

Has anyone else noticed some positive changes?

same as you with portions, chelle3099!

Also, I finally had a great night sleep last night!

The acne is disappearing.

Still feeling tired though, and I have mood swings... hope to be rid of these soon (during my first whole 30 I noticed great changes, my mood was much more stable (in a nice way)).

Need to go shopping at the week-end as the fridge is quite empty! Buying so many eggs every time! :D

I'm thinking of making some kind of chili with ground beef and to add some veal liver in it, because I don't think I can eat liver on its own, but everybody here keeps saying how liver is good for you!!

day 12 and finally the days are getting easier - even with a little scratchy throat and a slight aversion to meats right now!  seeing changes in my muscle definition and the way some pants fit - wearing jeans today that usually require some acrobatics and vigorous jumping to get into - put them on just like no big deal today!

aiming for a 10 mile run this weekend - will have warm sunny days - in the last few weeks before my next half marathon (which i run about 5 days after we complete our 30 and thank god for that because i WILL be drinking beers and eating carbs after that race!!!)

I have a marathon the week after I finish my 30 days. I'm looking forward to having a beer after the race :-)

How are you doing with eating and running? I'm running 16miles tomorrow. I ran this distance a few weeks ago pre-W30 and was fine, I'm worried about the change in eating how it was affect me.

my runs have been good so far, but haven't gone over 8 miles on whole 30.  in general, i don't need carbs specifically to get ready for big runs, i just eat a lot for dinner and get a good night's sleep before the big run.  what's hardest is getting through/finishing up without gatorade or some sugary sports drink.

if you are at 16 miles this week your run last weekend was probably what - 14?  if that was OK this will be fine!!

WE ARE HALFWAY TODAY!  Let's all check in on how we are feeling!

I am sick...so it is hard to have a good read on Whole 30....I am craving off-plan foods, but mostly for the comfort and not the taste.  Otherwise, I am easily sliding into previously too-tight pants and sleeping really well - even with this cold!  How about you?

I feel amazing! Halfway there! Clothes are fitting good and my energy is high, (despite the fact I had to skip the morning coffee bc someone threw out my coconut milk at work.)

I hope everyone else is doing well and those of you who are ill can recover and feel better soon!

I haven't been feeling too bad. Can't say much about my clothes as I've been a little bloated, but definitely hoping to have another pair of pants that fit soon. The last few months I've been limited to one pair of work pants (it's hard to want to buy new pants when I'm working on losing weight) that I've alternated with dresses/skirts.

I've been getting a little munchy in the evenings. If I can't get past it I'll allow myself one sliced apple with a spoonful of sunbutter; if my munchies are too bad I can get away with just a cup of tea.

Last Friday my husband and I were supposed to go out with a group of friends for a late Valentine's dinner. Thankfully my husband decided he didn't want to because I'm not sure what I was going to find at a Mexican restaurant that would be Whole 30 approved! I think that's probably the thing I miss the most. Mexican food. Especially chips and salsa. I would gladly eat nothing but chips and salsa for the rest of my life. I'm gonna have to find some tortilla chip alternative that doesn't involve nut or coconut flour.

i went out for mexican last weekend with a girlfriend - fajitas and guacamole!

mmmm fajitas and guacamole. I'm still iffy on dining out, because I don't feel educated enough on what questions to ask the waiter. I do know that many restaurants have a gluten free menu and they will state what oils they use (usually I find this online). But when I actually get to the restaurant, I freeze. I'm guessing after the Whole30 if over, dining out will be easier without all the restrictions (maintaining Paleo style).

hello everyone

I've been away from the forum, but I'm still on board!

Had a rough few days when I nearly gave up, and went at the coconut butter like crazy with a spoon... The last 2 nights I slept really well and woke up naturally at 6:00 feeling rested, that's a nice feeling.

This morning I had 3 scrambled eggs with coconut milk, it was delicious and creamy, just in case anyone wants to try :)
