Any T2 out there doing Whole30???

Recommended Posts

Type 2 Diabetic here and thinking of starting 3/1 and wanted to hear from some that have been doing Whole 30 and how it's working for you.

I am curious and scared (of failure) of starting - and, I know....I have failed if I didn't even start right???

My partner is T2 and she's doing the 30 this month with me (my second, her first). I am so proud of her! We're in our 60s and getting married in 3 months-- my guess is that's what pushed her to take the leap -- she's sick and tired of feeling sick and tired.

Here's my take on the fear of failure: Rather than second-guess what will happen if you do try and fail, ask yourself what will happen if you don't? If you don't try, nothing changes. If you try and fail, you'll learn what your "triggers" are and can maybe plan around them next time. If you try and succeed, well, that's obvious.

The hardest thing for her these first 9 days has been the "paleo flu" which I guess is like the DT's. I gave up grains and sugar gradually so by the time I did my first W30 last year, I didn't get so wiped out. Her usual breakfast was high carb/low protein -- and she'd "crash" about an hour later. Now it's hard boiled eggs, carrot sticks or another veggie, small serving of sweet potatoes in one form or another, and maybe a piece of fruit, plus black coffee. Or if I'm off work that day, I make her sugar-free bacon & eggs.

The best advice I can share is plan, plan, plan. Gather all the recipes you've been wanting to try from all the blogs and books, plan your meals, and then do the weekend "shop and chop" -- get as much stuff prepped for the week as you can. You'll be much less tempted to cheat (prompting the start-over blues) if there's always something quick and easy (and delish!) to make for dinner. And make large batches so there's always leftovers for lunch. Good luck -- you can do this!! :-)

I am T2.. the heaviest I have ever been and tired of feeling sick and tired.

I shopped all weekend, cleaned out my cubbords, and stocked up with the right oils etc. I made the Avacado dressing in the book. I think I will put it on everything I eat!

Coffee is my downfall. I typically drink it with soymilk, but today it is black. And none after noon....

so far so good... I am 4 1/2 hours into it!

I'm prediabetic and my numbers are much better now :D

Don't be afraid to start and don't be so afraid of failing that you avoid starting.

If you do fail, you will learn something you can use later.

Planning makes it much easier :)

There are some great cookbooks with Whole30 meals like Well Fed & Well Fed 2.

I am a type 2 also and am also going to do the whole thirty. I am currently getting things stocked so I can have the best possible start I can. I am nervous of how thus will affect my counts also but I am meeting with my doctor next week to talk about how to deal with my meds and the program. I have drastically cut my carbs (breads and grains) for the last month in an effort to minimize my "flu" systems. I too am a procrastinator and have put off doing the whole30 for about six months. But I am going to do this as soon as I meet with my doctor because I do not want to live my life feeling so blah. I have a million reason why I am in the boat I am but I finally feel that it is now or never.

I started out insulin/leptin resistant on June 1, 2014...  My 'BS' numbers are greatly improved after 5 months.   There are foods I still have to avoid during reintro, they still react the same old way.   Milk sugars, same.  I haven't added back refined carbs and fast sugars. I'm doing a slow roll reintro....it has been very revealing to me how sugars affected my old 'BS'.

If I revert back to my old way of eating, it will be my Groundhog Day all over again.   I don't binge, splurge or treat myself with sugars.

The Whole 30 has changed my way of thinking about returning to my old hunting grounds.
