yeage20c
I never liked olives, in fact I avoided them as much as possible. And then, yesterday, when I decided to add them in a pinch for my fat, it was like a new world opened up. They were delicious. I now am eating them quite a bit. Does anyone have any brands they like in particular? Also, just because: Do you prefer green olives vs "regular" black olives vs Kalamata? Why? Thanks! runninglawyer88
I prefer black--just taste the best IMO. They're also bigger so good for snacking.
GFChris
I prefer black too. I like Pastene's and Trader Joe's kalamata olives.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted February 20, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 20, 2014 I like kalamata olives because they taste so rich. However, I cook with green olives most often because they taste good and are more economical than kalamatas. I will eat black olives, but generally don't care for them. **Ann**
I love green spanish olives. I like black too, but there's something about the green. Before I went paleo last year, I would snack on green pitted olives and put cream cheese in them. It was very tasty...too bad cream cheese isn't compliant. ha! Guest
I love olives and I don't discriminate, although I prefer them pitted because it takes a while to get through an open palmful of olives with pits.
toriellie
I like Divina pitted kalamatas the best. I like Trader Joe's black olives the best, and Santa Barbara Olive Company is also good. I love green olives - I love them the most when they are stuffed with bleu cheese, so that won't be happening any time soon. :-) The Olive Pit in Corning, CA makes really good chipotle green olives! Not sure if they are W30 compliant, though.
praxisproject
I hate black spanish olives (not sure if they have a specific name, but they don't have a pointy end), many of them taste and smell like car tyre rubber to me I love black kalamata olives, giant ones if I can find them (sadly, never find giant ones pitted).Black kalamata olives are very popular in Australia (we have lots of ex-pat Greeks here). Manzanillo ones can be nice too, but they're hard to find, very soft. I love the green ones stuffed with pimento.
Moderators ultrarunnergirl Posted February 24, 2014 Moderators Share Posted February 24, 2014 If you have a Whole Foods near you, they have an "olive bar" with lots of choices (read the ingredients, they differ from store to store). Cerignola olives are amazing! They're a funky color of green and kind of mild. Love 'em.
