jgolds2
Hi!! SO I am on DAY 12, (i had to restart TWICE due to my old habits getting the best of me and I ate a peppermint patty, and the second time I had some chai tea that had sugar in it without thinking) Anyway my skin does seem clearer, my ribcage seems to be getting smaller and I overall feel better about myself. TWO OBSTACLES I HAVE ENCOUNTERED: 1.I still have sugar cravings, when i wake up all i want is my normal smoothie with fruits or dates and cacao 2.I feel like I am eating TOO MUCH FRUIT. Its so easy to grab and when I am leaving the house in a hurry or out working out or sleeping out I always have fruit with me! Veggies too yes, but Its so convient to grab blackberries, or an apple on my way out or at home. What other things can I be grabbing (i know the formula for post and prework out mini meals) if needed, but I have trouble with it. What suggestions do you all have for eating too much fruit---and some good post and pre workout combos! Thanks so much! Happy WHOLE30!!!. P.S I just realized the salt i have been using has dextrose in it! I WOULD HAVE NEVER CHECKED SALT, but as i was cooking I randomly did. (any thoughts) I really cant start over again I have worked all way to hard and put countless hours into this to have to restart again!
jent103
I'll let a mod weigh in on the dextrose, but for the fruit question - if you're really eating a lot, or eating it when you're craving something sweet, the best solution really is just not to buy it. Spend 15 minutes chopping up celery or carrots or peppers or broccoli or cauliflower or... you get the idea, and even preportion them into bags that you can grab and go if you're that pressed for time. (Or just buy the bags of, say, baby carrots or broccoli florets.) Spend some time on the weekend hard boiling some eggs or prepping proteins so it will be just as easy to grab a mini-meal as an apple. A little prep time can mean it's just as easy to grab protein and vegetables as it is fruit and nuts. Good luck!!
jgolds2
Thanks! I LOVE hardboiled eggs and just went to the farm yesterday and got three dozen, I am just starting a new job so I am going to buy PALEOPACS, i wanted to make my own but cant wait JERKY anywhere and I live around a ton of farms. Everyone seems to put sugar in it its awful! Thanks for your help! I will cut up carrots, and peppers, and broccoli as good grab and good snacks. What else is good to grab for protein other then a hard boiled egg or jerky! I know we cant just grab some veggies alone but its always best to add a protein or good fat to the mix! jent103
Slices of chicken, meatballs, salmon cakes, I just made a batch of carnitas this weekend - sky's the limit! For me, the key is prep. If I have something ready to heat up (or just grab), I'm good to go. As long as you're not going to be out for hours and hours without a fridge, any of that would be good. Moderators Tom Denham Posted March 10, 2014 Moderators Share Posted March 10, 2014 Don't worry about the dextrose in your salt. It is there to keep the iodine from evaporating. Get some sea salt or non-iodized salt to finish your Whole30. Stop buying fruit. Anyone who craves sugar should stop eating fruit. Maybe the real issue is that you expect to eat on the run and you are not taking feeding yourself seriously enough. I appreciate that you may be working much harder at eating than you ever have before in your life, but our culture encourages a lot of bad habits and eating on the run is one of them. Every time I hear someone say they are too busy to cook or too busy to sit down and eat a nourishing meal, I kind of grimace and start trying to think of an effective way to challenge such thinking. nprose
What's the harm in eating fruit?
tleef73
It feeds the sugar dragon if you're eating fruit because you're "craving" something sweet
Bigjenlock4
I have also been eating fruit, but have been limiting it to strawberries, blackberries and raspberries, usually once a day....or have been putting some in my smoothie....which is usually something along the lines of 1/4 cup of almond milk ( that I make from only almonds and water), kale or spinach, avocado, and small handful of berries. I usually take this as my "breakfast" with some diced grilled chicken, or some hard boiled eggs....was pretty sure I was doing okay....now I am second guessing myself! I don't feel like I am reaching for these things because I am craving sugar though....but maybe I really am. YIKES! I am going to cut back on them now though. I am 10 days in, and feeling pretty good...had a rough few days with the headaches...I hit the "everyone must die" thing yesterday... Otherwise not having too difficult of a time. Will be letting go of some of my fruit though for now.
