I baked salmon for the first time today. Actually turned out pretty good! We are not really a fish eating family, but trying new foods can be fun. My 7 year old told me this new diet is making his life difficult because he cant have many of the things he likes to eat! Lol.

I am very irritated today. Hope that passes soon.

I am positive the irritation will pass soon. A lot is going on in your body so it stands to reason that you might feel it emotionally.

Here's to day 5!!!

I was going to try sweet potato home fries for brekkie but I think the sweet potatoes are a little too soft.

Cheers and I will check in later.

I survived day 4! :) Even though hubby brought home POTATO CHIPS from the store  (he didn't end up opening the bag--I was so upset at him. LOL).

Headache is gone.  Mild to severe aggravation setting in every time someone in my family wants to eat something non-Whole30 (3 teenagers and hubs). :) I know this will pass, too.

Wow...we're on Day 5!  The food distractions keep catching my eye, but then I think that it's already Day 5...we've come SO far.  And, for the moment, that's enough to keep me on track.

Headache is gone...but I've been battling a sore throat the past few days.  Also, haven't run in a week (SO sick of winter!...treadmill) and I'm itching to move, but concerned about missing my familiar pre and post run foods since they aren't on our list.

On top of that, I'm missing my quick and easy greek yogurt for meals or snacks.  That may be my undoing when we get to the middle of the month and I'm tired of what is on our food lists.
Good luck everyone!  Any other runners out there with some tips?

Thanks,

Bobbi

I'm a runner and I've read the meal plan guide to pre and post workout foods. Honestly, I am not sure I will do what they suggest. I plan to do Whole 30 foods but ones the plan says to be moderate about. Like fruit and Lara Bars. I might be better about it later in the 30 days but that's my plan for now!  :)

I've been feeling pretty good today. I had a horrible run on Sunday that was really a fast walk. I will be interested to see how my 3 miles feels tomorrow morning. On day 6!

I am sure you got through the yogurt cravings and that the rest of the day is going great.

We can both report in. Mine is an easy 3 so we'll see how it goes. I don't usually fuel up for a short run so no experimentation on that score.

Tried the easy tandoori chicken from Nom Nom Paleo last night. Delish! I added roasted brussels sprouts and really enjoyed dinner.

Just curious if your hunger cravings are starting to abate a little. I was kind of amazed that I did not feel very hungry at the end of the day yesterday. Gee, maybe I am doing something right! I feel like I can cruise for the next couple of weeks. My next big social thing is not until the second weekend in April. I'm already planning to offer to bring deviled eggs or some other paleo app or main dish. The booze will be the only thing. But by then, I will be only 5 days away from finishing my Whole 30 so I expect stubborn pride will get me over the event!

Happy day #6!!!

I chickened out on the run but did a fast walk instead.  It felt good just to get moving in a regular fashion.  Between exhaustion from a retreat for high schoolers, a sore throat, and the "tireds" of the first few days, i just wasnt' embracing the idea of a run this morning.  But the walk did wonders for my spirit (despite the fresh layer of snow that I woke to).  I may just get a run in tonight after work if this feeling continues.

My next social challenge is the first weekend in April when I'll be on retreat again as chaperone with the high school crowd.  Thankfully, a few have gluten issues, so that'll help some.  But pizza is a staple for them...think I'll reserve toppings for myself.  Time will tell.

Good luck to all on Day #6.

Slept 10 hours last night!  Sheesh!  We're expecting snow later today (I am so over this winter!), so I won't be walking--really wishing I had a treadmill!

No major social events coming up for us until Easter (that I know of).  Man, that makes us sound boring! :)  Just busy with 3 teenagers, homeschooling and everything that goes with that. :)

Manda, we are homeschoolers too! :) We have a homeschool Mother/Daughter tea the first weekend of April. I thought about not going because I am sure most of the food will not be compliant. But the time with my daughter and wonderful friends would be nice. So I will probably eat a large breakfast and then plan to eat when we get back home. Just worried about the flow of questions as to why I am not eating with everyone else. They will have gluten free options, but those will not necessarily be compliant.

I did survive snack time last night at our 4H meeting! I managed to say no even though I really wanted one of the scotcheroos! I think it is the small victories that will keep me going!

I woke up groggy, but I think that has less to do with day 6 than the fact my husband turned the humidifier off so my throat hurts again, and the baby (who is in our room) didn't sleep well. Like he nursed the entire night. I can sort of kind of sleep through it, but it isn't solid sleep. I took him to the doctor and he does have a cold or something going on. And I'm sore from yesterday's workout. I want to try to get a walk in before the rain starts this afternoon, but we'll see.

:D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D !!!!

Here we are on Day 7! I was committed to the plan but never absolutely sure that I could do it. But 7 days down, only 3 weeks and some change left! By golly, I think we can do this. :)

Thinking about week 2, I want to focus more on basic foods. I've been doing the apple an almond butter thing less. I want to amp up the veggies and downshift the snacky things. I do still get "peckish" in the morning around 10. I want to honor my body and its signals. I might spend a little more time considering whether I am hungry or thirsty or what. I want to eat enough and not see this whole thing as restrictive in any way.

Good luck on this, the end of our first week! Huzzah!

By last evening I finally felt like "I'm back"...I even managed to get all my steps in and then some...a first in over a week!

It's funny how I feel like a "switch" has been flipped.  Managing to get through this first week is such a good feeling that now I look forward to focusing on proper balance of foods.

Here's to us on this the 7th Day!.

Checking back in on Day 8 for me.  Such a great feeling to get through week one!  I didn't find it hard and actually I was a little concerned that I DIDN'T have the headaches and "carb flu".  I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, but I swear I'm not.  Just lucky I suppose.

I too am so desperate to get on the scale!  Nothing really feels looser yet, so it's probably for the best, but it's such a habit.

I love how much cooking and experimenting I'm doing.

Loving :)

Sweet potatoes

avocados

coconut cream in my coffee (and only needing/wanting one cup per day!)

ghee (for cooking)

coconut cauliflower "rice"

Missing :(

yogurt

smoothies (with flax, chia, fruit and of course, yogurt)

peanut butter

wine (very tough one)

Hope you're all doing well, I love reading everyone's updates!

Ruth

Ugh--the last two days have been hell. Maybe my "kill all things" days? I haven't had anything off - plan, but a couple of my meals haven't quite lined up with the template. I feel like I'm just seconds away from diving into a bag of potato chips.

it doesn't help that I finally had to cave and buy bigger pants. I gained 16 lbs over the winter, and just did not have anything to wear.

I'm really hating this right now. I just cannot get myself in a mindset of "this is worth it." SIGHHHHH.

Hopefully I'll wake up in a better frame of mind.

Manda, I agree with BA on this one - a good night's sleep will do wonders. Check in tomorrow for sure and let us know how you are!

It's been hard not to jump on the scale. I don't feel like I've lost anything and my runs feel like crap-ola. But I figure, heck, it's only 30 days and the food is good so let's just see, shall we? On the loss, my big experiment is to see whether the weight I am at right now is THE weight. I'm am not so much overweight as I am on the high end of what I think of as normal. Plus my jeans are more snug than I like.  :)

So I'm going to stick it out to see if all the hullabaloo is right for me. Only 21 more days!

My run yesterday was not awesome but not awful either. It was only 4 miles but maybe I should have fueled a bit more.

Cheers. Day 9!!!! Huzzah!!!
