spelozi
Hello, I just started my Whole30 on Monday, yay! I started the Whole 30 with a friend to kick my very recently developed sugar habit. My biggest problem though in the past two days is that I'm switching from eating two large to three meals a day. My meals typically were lunch and dinner, with lunch being the larger. My meals were usually slow, I'd graze on them for an hour or so at my desk at work or at the dinner table for dinner. But now, I'm getting super full each time because of eating in the morning. My breakfast aversion is because eating after waking up tends to make me physically nauseas. Eggs make it so much worse as the sulphur in them seems to affect this more. Chicken sausage it is then, but I still don't feel right. If I needed the energy before I started the Whole 30 I would grab a banana, or maybe a few spoon fulls of cottage cheese and be on my merry way. Yesterday, because of the three meals, by dinner I wasn't hungry at all but forced myself to eat two boiled eggs and a few bites of fermented veggies. I'm already eating bare minimum suggested serving sizes to get three squares in. I've always had a very strange relationship with hunger. I don't get hungry, the urge doesn't hit and I'd always had to remind myself to eat when I notice the symptoms (headache, cranky, etc) and all would be right with the world. But that's never stopped me from sitting down and eating food if I decided to. Should I reduce my serving size a little more? Can I skip breakfast altogether? I'm average to athletic build and unless I needed it breakfast has never been on my radar. My activity levels have been much lower than usual as my gym visits were paused due to my work schedule going nuts. Any suggestions on how to cram that third meal into my day would be greatly appreciated.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted March 26, 2014 Moderators Share Posted March 26, 2014 Eating breakfast within an hour of waking in the morning is critically important to getting your hormonal rhythms on a healthy track. Your lack of perceived hunger is probably related to your hormones being out of rhythm, so eating a good breakfast is important for you. It would be better for you to eat a very light supper than to wait until lunch to eat your first meal.
Robin Strathdee
Also keep in mind that this is day 2 Patience, grasshopper.
spelozi
Thanks for the responses. I am a little impatient, aren't I? I just wish the breakfast wouldn't make me so nauseas or I would be totally onboard with everything.
Carlaccini
Have you thought about soup for breakfast? You can easily make it and puree everything together (even the protein) either with a blender or a imersion blender.
SharynF
Carlaccini's soup idea is a good one. I love a bowl of veggie soup with an egg poached in it. Usually have it for meal 2 but have had it for meal 1 a few times and it's good.
GFChris
I found it interesting that you felt your only breakfast choices were eggs or chicken sausage. There's oodles of other options. Start by thinking of it as Meal 1 instead of breakfast. You can have leftovers, or as Carlaccini suggested, soup, or chili, or whatever you want to whip up that meets the recommended template of protein, veg and fat. spelozi
Thanks for the soup idea. I have done bone broth with simmered veggies for breakfast a couple times. I'm slowly getting over the nausea when cooking and eating breakfast. It's not as powerful as it was in the beginning. I did have to get over "breakfast" and the nausea it caused me this week. I had ER visit and I ended up anemic from blood loss. I was sleeping almost day and night Monday and Tuesday and some of Wednesday. I had no set meals and just ate a bit whenever I woke up because I wasn't sure the next time I'd wake up. I made myself push through the discomfort of eating right after waking up. Luckily I had leftovers to munch on and thawed out ground beef when that was out. Bleh. Back to bed for me. I have enough liver and onions for breakfast now though
