eileenwithane
So I'm finishing up day 8 and last night for the first time in my life I broke out in itchy hives. Around 3 am I woke up and they were all over my arms. I took benydryl and it cleared them up. I did have In n Out (protein style, with produce only) for dinner. Other than that nothing had changed. I've been perfect on plan the whole week. Has anyone else had this happen? I have all my food except yesterday and today logged since the forums were down, but will updated shortly. I did open a new coconut oil, because I ran out of the last. Otherwise nothing weird was eaten yesterday (2 meals of pork, tomatoes from a can and eggplant and then the in n out). I was looking at the forums and saw mentions of hives when reintroducing things, but this wasn't the case.
Brittany Long
Maybe the oil they use at In N out or the seasoning?
eileenwithane
Maybe the oil they use at In N out or the seasoning? Up until a week ago I ate all sorts of crud (cut dairy a week before that, but other that, lots of junk). Do you think within a week my body could already be reacting this badly to things I've eaten my whole life?
praxisproject
It's possible. Some restaurants put really crappy things in their food. You could have had some cross-contamination with something, it seems more likely it would be food you didn't prepare yourself. What was in the meal you ate? (the things you could see)
momof2osaurus
Yeah, being away from allergens/things you're intolerant to for only a week can make the reaction a lot more obvious/pronounced when you have it again. I'd guess something in the In and Out food too.

peace_positive
U had tomatoes and eggplant, arent those nightshades? I had to eliminate nightshades after my w30 because i realized they were messing with me.
eileenwithane
Yeah, but I had more eggplant yesterday no problems. And have been eating fresh tomatoes the whole time. I'll have to test the canned ones again, but they are the same brand of organic diced tomatoes I've always used.
ninadude
Hi! I finished my W30 and am on my second. I did have a day, maybe two with itchy skin about a week in, which is common when flushing out toxins. I couldn't stop scratching my arms and hands. It went away quickly and never returned. Oh that's sounds possible. Hoping it doesn't come back. I'm tempted to get the burger again and see if it happens again.
eileenwithane
Hives struck again. Way worse. During my workout. But it took longer to get the Benadryl this time, so it could have spread. It was like 14 hours since my last meal, and at the height of the workout. So I'm guessing it's the toxins being flushed thing. Hives are awful. So itchy. I'm going to start carrying Benadryl. praxisproject
If it's getting worse during a workout, it's likely something you're metabolising Make sure you're getting enough liquids and don't work out on an empty stomach
tiva
How awful! I've had hive outbreaks twice in the last 2 years, and the doctor and I couldn't ever really figure out the cause, except possibly very hot water (although saunas don't cause them for me). Or maybe too many nuts, because once almonds preceded the hives, and once peanuts did. Good luck with them. The pharmacist locally suggested that I take a number of different antihistamines, rather than just benadryl, so you might want to chat with your doctor or local pharmacist. Jester
So glad I found this post. I broke out in hive after my first week. They went away and I thought I was in the clear but now on day 25 of my W30 they're back with a vengeance! I'm being so careful but guess it's my body releasing toxins also. Just knowing I'm not the only one getting hives helps though. Wish I knew what toxins are doing this to me.
Dominika
I am on day 6 of my first whole30. I broke out in hives for the first time in my life on Day 3. My back was covered in hives but some Benadryl quickly helped get rid of those. Day 4 I woke up feeling much better and no sign of hives, however by noon I was extreamly itchy on my inner thighs and arms, and a splotchy rash had reappeared. I've had to take Benadryl every day since then, and although it calms the rash, my skin is still incredibly itchy, and I find it gets worse when excersizing. I'm going to try to stop taking Benadryl tomorrow and hopefully it gets better. I spoke to my doctor today and he didnt seem concerned, stating that hives are common and go away on their own. I am not happy with this answer, but am willing to wait it out and hopefully it gets better? Does anyone else have experience with hives or itchy skin during the first week of the whole30? mrsleelee
I broke out in terrible hives all over my back after my first week of whole30. I have been eating so clean, and not allergic to anything and haven't really changed how I have been eating in the past, except cutting out dairy and gluten-- I was already eating low carb before this. I originally thought it was bug bites or bed bugs and the doctor prescribed some topical cream that did not give me much relief. Im onto my second week now, but I am thinking it might be a food allergy or toxins or whatever. My concern is that the hives won't go away after whole 30. Also, I don't want to become intolerant to the foods I was tolerant to before starting this journey. I would eventually like to incorporate a little bit of dairy into my diet--- should i quit the whole30 altogether and hope my food tolerance comes back? I'm not sure what to do!
