Midlyfechrysalis
I know I could make my own, but trust me that my kitchen prep time is limited. If there is a compliant sausage roll (like Jimmy Dean, but not ), I would be very happy and grateful.
Moderators LadyM Posted April 2, 2014 Moderators Share Posted April 2, 2014 You can order a good one from US Wellness Meats. But it's expensive; and seriously, making your own sausage is a matter of tossing spices into ground meat.
HealingWithin
I buy the kind from US Wellness meats but buy in large qty. Which makes it the same cost as buying ground pork. I also have a large freezer and shifting to tgat way of buying it was an adjustment but I love it now.
GLC1968
I found a compliant sausage in the meat case at my local health food store (like Whole Foods, but locally owned). I sat there one day when it wasn't busy and asked the butcher for the ingredients of all their sausages and pre-marinated meats. There were a few that contained only spices and one was my favorite 'country sage breakfast sausage"! My CSA where I get pastured beef and pork also makes a compliant sausage, so I have options. I'd check the ingredients at your local butcher case or even at farmer's markets (once spring hits). I do typically make my own (I keep a jar of the sausage seasoning mix from well fed in my cabinet) but sometimes I like the variety and convenience of the purchased stuff, too.
