gsg
Hello, My wife and I are starting the Whole 30 tomorrow/this week. I have found a huge variety of recipes that all look amazing. I am overwhelmed at the number of recipes and advice. A little back ground on myself -- I worked my way through college as a chef in a gourmet restaurant and I think of myself as a pretty good cook. The cooking part of this excites me! I love to cook and that is part of what has contributed to my current situation -- Needing to lose about 60 lbs or so. My wife would also like to lose some weight. We have tried various things over the years and never had much success but we are committing to the Whole 30 and Whole Life Eating. Years ago I got away from menu planning, etc due to busy life, travelling for work, etc. I am feeling overwhelmed by the menu planning. There are so many options, etc. I guess what I would like is a "here's what to eat" guide for 1 or 2 weeks to get us started. I understand the what should be on my plate, small protein, veggies, etc. but what should be on my plate? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated! ErnestineB26
There are so many options. My suggestions is to start with items that you typically eat and revise them so they are Whole30 compliant. You will need a "go to meal" for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Once you have your staples down, you can start to expand your menu options.I tried at least one additional menu option a week to keep myself from getting bored during my first whole30. This round of my Whole 30 I plan to try about 2 new items a week mostly for dinner because I typically have my time to prepare food in the afternoon. It's so easy to be overwhelmed, but I think to trick to not let yourself fall in the trap of feeling overwhelmed about what you are eating at every meal. Tina R
Congratulations! I have a few simple standby meals that I can make in about 15 min. They consist of ground meat and 2 - 3 veggies. I stir fry in ghee or coconut oil add salt and pepper and sometimes a little compliant chicken broth to let the veggies steam. I also love sweet potato hash and fried eggs. Nom Nom Paleo has blogged about two of her whole30s. Here is the link to one of them. http://nomnompaleo.com/post/42057515329/the-round-up-30-days-of-whole30-recipes. The Clothes Make The Girl has some tips for doing a cook up once a week so you have a bunch of stuff on hand that you can toss together. Make sure your meals follow the meal planning template. http://whole30.com/downloads/whole30-meal-planning.pdf. Sometimes your meals will look more like a bunch of appetizers instead of a meal, that's ok. The first week is probably the easiest to cook because you are motivated. The second and third weeks are harder because you are tired of being in the kitchen washing and cutting veggies. Good Luck!
tahoecorgilover
I'm keeping it simple. I'm not a great cook but I can steam vegies and bake meat. I can also make a good omelet. I start my first W30 tomorrow too. I've been practicing the last 3 days. The first 2 days I wasn't eating enough so I kicked it up a bit today. I made a 3 egg omelet with asparagus (and ghee) this morning, a big tossed salad with avocado, turkey strips, hard boiled egg, lettuce, cabbage, carrots and celery and sunflower seeds on top. Dressing was olive oil and some lemon. It was yummy! Dinner will be chicken thigh, brussel sprouts and swiss chard with ghee. I made a big pot of soup for a fast meal. It has carrots, cauliflower, onion and tarragon. I'm going to try to make a large pot of soup every week. I know I'll get tired of eggs for breakfast. That will be the hardest meal for me. I was going to make quiche but I couldn't find bacon without sugar. Guess I could make one without bacon. Some people like lettuce sandwiches. I might try that. And I have lots of nuts for quick energy. I like the idea of sunflower seed butter. I saw it at the health food store but passed because I have an addiction to peanut butter. Probably not a good idea for me. But might work for somebody else. I wish I was a good cook like you. Maybe after this I will be!
