suzy_s
I had no clue there was a log here! Oh awesome! Last time I checked my scale, I was at 273, so we'll see where I am after Day 30. So I just finished my 11th day on the Whole30. I'll put down what I ate today. Breakfast: Lara Bar (it was a morning emergency as I ran out of eggs, had no time to cook as I forgot to cook the night before, and had no other means of getting energy in me before class. Poor prep, I know, but I'm getting better at it! This was the first emergency issue. Banana Grilled chicken breast (I finally got some place with real protein, and they cooked it to order with no butter, seasoning or anything (also checked if their chicken was marinated, and it wasn't) Water Lunch: Grilled chicken breast Carrots Grapes Water Pre-workout: A small amount of smoked salmon (all compliant ingredients) Carrots Water PostWO: Shrimp with veggies Water Dinner: Shrimp cooked with coconut oil, veggies, and coconut milk along with compliant red curry paste Sweet potato Cashews Water So, I have adjusted my sleeping schedule so that I'm sleeping about 7 hours a night (8 if I can actually fall asleep when I climb in bed), and I'm still incredibly lethargic when I wake up. Luckily, I seem to have energy come out of no where when I exercise. I used to only exercise every other day, but for three days in a row now I've tested what my body can handle by working out consistently each day. Every time I work out, I can feel myself get a little stronger. I feel amazing and have lots of energy when I work out. I'd love to do it in the mornings, but it just doesn't work with my schedule yet. I've learned the dangers of having too much coconut milk. When I saw that making curries was compliant (no sugars or added thickeners in the paste!) I went a little crazy. I made a large amount and ate it consistently through the day for three days and that was a painful decision. I'm spending so much money on food, BUT when I ate out all the time it was at almost $50 a pop or maybe even more sometimes. Now, I'm actually rarely spending money at school for snacks (which was almost $25 a day). So even though I spend $100 on groceries sometimes twice a week as my pantry was a hot mess, I'm still spending far less. Also, I'm proud to say that my acid reflux and heartburn are pretty much gone. I can taste the amount of salt on the smoked salmon, so I'll probably leave that alone now. It's compliant, but it's painful. Anything with salt just tastes to funky or weird. I can't say that my energy levels have spiked back up yet (they did a few times), but I can't wait to be on day 15 of this. Eleven days in and I already feel better. For the first 8 days I was having dreams about eating sugar and cheese, and I had cravings for processed cheese, but now I can see my fiance eat snack foods and have no issue with it. Those cravings have pretty much died and drifted off. I can definitely see myself continuing this diet afterwards. As of May my monies may get tight, but I can't see why this diet still wouldn't work with even a less amount of monies. I'll try to keep it working. I am enjoying this so far! Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 9, 2014 Moderators Share Posted April 9, 2014 It is okay to use spices on your food. Your body requires salt and when you cut processed foods from your diet, you cut a huge amount of salt, so it can be important to add some when you are cooking. suzy_s
Ah yes, I am definitely using spices, but I think I'm going to calm down on the coconut milk. The salmon was too salty, so I think I want meat I can salt myself. Like tonight's meal. *nods*
suzy_s
So here was today's meal: Breakfast: Publix-made kielbasa (compliant amazingly) some left over yams from last night fruit water Lunch: Beef with coconut milk and spices Fresh, sliced veggies to go with it Dinner: Beef (from lunch) Broccoli fruit water I did not exercise today, so my foods list is a bit short. But I never felt hungry, so I must be eating the right amount of food. I gave myself a day to rest my muscles, because I've been working out so much, but tomorrow it's back to jogging and doing a routine for my shoulders and arms. Today was generally a good food day. I'm going to hold off on coconut milk for a while, though, because it's doing weird things with my digestion. I read somewhere that it can be a milk laxative, and I think I'm relaxing my stomach too much with it. *ahem* <
suzy_s
Today was an accidentally light day. Breakfast: Chicken carrots water Lunch: Chicken carrots fruit water I missed my Pre work out meal by accident. Oops. PostWO: Sausage eggs carrots water Dinner: Sausage asparagus water My work out today was difficult, but I spoke with my PT about it, and he realized that some of the shoulder and arms exercises he gave me were way above my level. We are modifying it. I worked out for 30 minutes like usual, but my inability to do much of that work out resulted in my searching for my full body work out and doing as much of it as possible in the time allotted. Ah, it happens. I will just continue as I've been doing, and that should work.
suzy_s
I haven't been back here for a while, but I've been following this whole plan religiously. I've been eating protein with veggies in the morning with a banana, protein with veggies before I work out, fruit with some protein after I work out, and protein cooked in olive oil with veggies for dinner. I will say that for a short period of time I almost fell off, but not in the way it sounds. I mean I got kind of bored with food. Then for two days I got so stressed out I forgot to eat my first two meals (I was at school all day prepping for my last days of school and getting my portfolio together). I decided not to work out the first time, because I knew I'd bonk if I did. The second time I forced myself to remember, but I still ate very little. Surprisingly enough, I was only tummy-grumbling hungry on the first day. So long as I get my daily nutrients, I'm fine. I just think it's strange how this diet has made me feel about food. I'm super excited to not be eating bad foods, but I'm not super excited about food anymore. I guess I've sort of detached from it? I don't know, but my exercise routines are getting longer and more intense. Also, all of my pants are loose. Like, can be pulled up around my belly loose. When I started this 28 days ago, I had a pair of pseudo-brocade pants that were tight and not comfortable to sit in. And now 28 days later I don't have to unbutton them if I want to slip out of them. I still have food dreams every once in a while, but the cravings for snacks are really gone. People end up eating pizza and all sorts of stuff around me and I couldn't care less. I have two days left. I know that I will continue my exercise routine for sure, but I hope I can continue to eat this way without succumbing to poor eating now that I don't have this 30-day diet helping me to say no. I may go off it for a couple of weeks, and do another whole 30 when I move back home to Los Angeles, I don't know. I'm just very happy to feel so comfortable in my skin and with what I am eating. I guess I'll be back on my last day, which is Sunday. :
suzy_s
I wish I would have done this more thoroughly, but I'm horrible when it comes to posting about things like this in public. Maybe on my second time around a will be more social. But since it's 1am, I can say that I am officially done with my first Whole30. I feel much better, and I'm definitely eating better. I'm more focused and have way more energy than when I started. Also, I'm not tempted to "cheat" and immediately go out tomorrow and down a bag of chips or anything like that (especially when my fiance offered me pie at 12am, lol). Tomorrow I'll start reintroducing legumes back into my diet to see how I feel. I need more carbs than usual, because I work out five days a week, and I don't want to do such a low-carb diet. I know that works for some people, but it doesn't work for me. I'm too active to be low carb. Not to say I'm going to eat 1,000 carbs, but I am going back to having at least 130 carbs a day if I can help it, but only on days where I am exercising beforehand. I do not want to do something like ketosis, like some people are more inclined to do. I am perfectly okay with losing weight slowly, but surely. I will weigh myself in the morning to get the full amount of weight loss, and I'm really excited to see what it looks like. I know I'm much smaller, because all of my pants are loose to the point of being pulled up over my stomach, and my "skinny" pants are looking more like regular pants around the bottom where they used to fit very tightly. I'll continue this regime, though, because I just enjoy the feel of eating properly. Also, moving back home with this diet will make eating and buying food much easier than ever. I've found a rhythm of cooking and eating that I like, and I enjoy the ingredients I use. I don't go for emergency bars when I have forgotten to shop and have nothing to take with me on days I won't be home for hours while also not wanting to eat out, I prep just a mad woman, and I'm generally happy about my diet and exercise progress. Speaking of which, my jog times have gotten faster, and I'm doing longer work outs, about 50 minutes each go. I can feel the slightest build of muscle under my fat, and I'm not ever out of breath like I used to be in the beginning of the school semester. I'm just really happy to have had this experience, and I'm eager to share it with others looking to clean out their diet and start eating right. :
