Salad dressing alternatives (that aren't olive oil)

Recommended Posts

Homemade mayo as a base and then mix in whatever you like to make a dressing. I take a couple tablespoons of mayo, add a splash of apple cider vinegar, some compliant dijon mustard, garlic powder, chili powder and pepper.

One of the women who had a food blog and posted on here had an almond butter balsamic she raved about.  Her website in general is awesome - I've gotten lots of great recipes from it!

These are her directions:

Combine one part date paste, one part almond butter or tahini and two parts balsamic vinegar. Add water to thin to your desired consistency. In general, 1T date paste, 1T almond butter and 2T balsamic + water will be a good amount for one person.

I drizzle avocado oil and lemon juice and sprinkle on sumac. Or make the full dressing- It's a middle Eastern dressing used in lebanese restaurants. I was spending to much money on take out so I got them to teach me how to make it. You can use this recipe and omit the sugar (and def the pita chips!!!) and use avocado oil instead of olive oil.  http://mixitupcookbook.blogspot.ca/2013/08/fattoush-salad-dressing-mix.html

I'm new to this, but I would think a little coconut milk mixed with mashed avocado, dried onion and garlic powder would be great.  Also, there are some wonderful marinara tomato sauces out there that have no sugar or anything objectionable in them.  I'm going to try that for sure!
