Anyone else coming up to the halfway point?

I started my first W30 on April 2nd and am now on Day 14. Would be nice to have some buddies for the second half!

So far I am really enjoying it, I've had a few rough days where I've really craved non-compliant things but I haven't fallen off the wagon and I'm really proud of myself for that (I am not known for my willpower!). I'm starting to realise what an emotional eater I am and how I like to treat myself with food. The W30 is definitely helping to shift my mindset from that to 'food is fuel' and I'm thinking of other ways to treat myself now.

One side effect I've noticed, as has my husband who is eating mainly Paleo but only doing W30 at home with me, is that food tastes so much more vibrant. I am really, really enjoying the meals that I'm making which was something of a surprise! I've planned hard for this and have been very keen to get a good mix of meals that I can look forward to in order to keep me on track and it seems to be paying off. I've also discovered that I actually really like vegetables that I have previously sneered at (hello, turnips!).

I have no plans to go back to the way I was eating before, I do plan to reintroduce some dairy and white potatoes and maybe occasional rice and oats but I feel like I've come home with this way of eating.

Anyway, enough about me, anyone else want to join me for the rest of the way?

It's odd isn't? I wonder whether it's the removal of sugar making us taste things properly again. Just noticed from your picture that you're not too far from me! Have updated my details now as I was like a ghost:) Is this your first? How have you found doing it in the UK? Have you eaten out much? I'm off for my first meal out tomorrow and have picked Cafe Rouge as they do a couple of things which could easily be made compliant.

On Day 16 today and feeling very good. Yesterday I had some cravings which had completely gone away for several days but I cleaned my garage to power thru them. Plenty of energy, sleep great and can feel my clothes getting much looser. My wedding ring even comes off with ease now which it hasn't been able to do in years. My allergies are at bay, acid reflux is gone, and I am starting to see a difference in the mirror even though I have had plenty of people tell me that they have noticed I lost weight. Can't wait to get on the scale to see the difference. I know this program isn't geared for weight loss, but when I think of how much garbage I was consuming ....I can easily see how the pounds would fall off. I love this program because I don't feel tired or hungry.  Hope everyone has a great day!

Sounds like you're doing brilliantly, Dave! Good work on fighting off the cravings and doing something productive instead

You've just made me realise that my usual hay fever has completely disappeared (and I was getting symptoms a few weeks ago). My clothes are also much looser, to the extent that my work trousers are starting to look ridiculous now but the ones I have in the next size down are still a little snugger than I would like. I had to get my husband to hide our scales as the temptation was getting too much!

I'm not sure whether my sleep quality is any better, I still think I need more sleep than I am getting but it's difficult with a toddler who still wakes in the night. I love the program too though, I feel great at the moment!

I'm right on the 1/2 way point - Day 15 today.  I've not found it too bad so far although you never know what's around the corner.  This is my first Whole 30 although I have been paleo for about 1 1/2 years with the exception of some dairy and a lot of chocolate which I couldn't get control of and was eating almost every day.  I also used to eat 5-6 smaller meals per day but I much prefer this way of eating, my mood and energy levels are much more steady and I am starting to notice my sleep improving and my clothing fitting a bit better.  Going paleo has pushed me to try so many new foods that I didn't think of before, this weekend I tried plantain for the first time and it was so good.

Easter is just around the corner and there's chocolate being pushed in our faces everywhere we go.  To avoid any temptation I'm going to do my food shopping online this week so I don't have to venture into the supermarket where they will no doubt be displayed on every isle ;-)

Good luck to you all for the second half of your Whole 30.

Hello!

Yes, this is my first W30 and I am enjoying it so far. Must admit I've timed it so there aren't many unavoidable commitments as I wasn't 100% sure how/where to find compliant meals outside the house! I'm meeting folk on Friday for lunch so I'll have a look at Cafe Rouge's menu now - good shout!

I've mostly just been cooking lots at home. Key for me has been actually making time for breakfast. That is really helping cut down on the cravings.

Yes - online shopping for me this week I think! Although I've not really been craving chocolate. I was very tempted by the smell of toasted hot cross buns as I walked past a cafe today though!

I'm on Day 15. The surprising thing about all this for me -- despite the cravings, irritability, odd moods, and sleepiness -- is how happy I am throughout it all. I prepare my food with great anticipation, eat it with relish, then look forward to getting hungry again so I can enjoy the next meal. And, yeah, when I'm not lackadaisical the energy is pretty high.

And since I'm being forced to make nearly all my meals, my cooking skills are getting much better. Take a gander.

I'm on Day 17 and I feel great! I eat just three meals a day which is a HUGE difference.  I used to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus three snacks a day.  I was hungry all the time.  Now my three meals do the trick! Amazing.  I've said no to ice cream, fresh from the oven Italian bread, and bottomless salsa a chips.  All would have done me in 18 days ago :)

One thing I didn't expect at all was a tremendous change in my sleep patterns.  I've always stayed up until 11:00-11:30pm during the week and struggled to get out of bed in the morning.  Now I'm half asleep by 10pm and once my head hits the pillow I am out cold.  The only thing is...I wake up at 6:00am even on the weekend! Ugh.  I would much rather have a well regulated body but these early morning weekends are killing me.

I don't think I will ever eat grains on a regular basis again.  I look forward to indulging in a dessert in the future but I feel so much better knowing that it will truly be a treat.

I'm on Day 15 - the half-way mark!  I'm really enjoying my 3 meals a day.  Things do taste so much better.  But the best thing of all is that my sore throat, the sore throat that has been my constant companion for the last 3 years (because of Laryngopharyngeal reflux or LPR) has disappeared!  I noticed that it was getting better and better the first week.  Now it's gone.  That is a big deal for me.  I'm hoping it stays away.  I was on several diets before this one (Jaime Koufman's Dropping Acid and Norm Robilliard's Fast Tract Digestion for Heartburn).  They helped but the throat issue never went away.  I really didn't expect it to but I'll take it!  Some of the other symptoms of LPR have not gone away, but I'm only half-way through.  So I'm hopeful.  I'm thinking that when the 30 days is over, I'll get rid of eggs and nuts and see if I can get the other symptoms to disappear too.  Then I can use it as an elimination diet and add things back one-by-one to see what the culprit(s) are.  LPR is a difficult thing to deal with - there really isn't a cure for it and the symptoms can come and go mysteriously.  But this is the best I've felt in a very long time - so that's something to be thankful for.

Hi everyone, sorry for being AWOL, how's everyone doing? It's great to hear how positive everyone is and I love that people are seeing such good results with sleep and health. I have to say, I'm a total convert, I can't see me going back to how I ate before. I plan to reintroduce dairy and I'd like to include white potatoes and rice when eating out but I'm not fussed about having them at home. Grains I don't feel bothered about at all at the moment but we'll see.

So, day 24 for me, on the home stretch now! This time next week I will have completed my first W30! Where is everyone else up to? Clare_S, did you go out for lunch? I didn't go out in the end as my friend couldn't make it so I've not eaten out at all during this.

How did everyone cope over Easter? I really wanted to see friends and family but didn't want to ask them to cater for me so I did two dinner parties and a load of picnic food! It was all really nice but I think I gave myself cooking fatigue as I really couldn't be bothered for a couple of days after that. Luckily, I have quite a few meals frozen now so we've been having those this week. Think my motivation has finally come back though now!

I'm on day 17 and it's going great. I love that I'm never bloated or gassy anymore and I stopped craving things a few days ago. I was on day 10 or 11 on Easter and was worried about it but my relatives mainly cook compliant foods to begin with (we had roast beef, bbq chicken, steamed carrots, salad and mashed potato... so I just skipped the potato). I made dessert so I could make something I didn't like that much and not be tempted but everyone else could have some. I received some chocolate as gifts and put it away in a drawer for next month or later. It will be a novelty eating a cream egg when there are none to be found anywhere else! I plan to do a long reintroduction when this is over to finally pinpoint what was causing the stomach pain but I am in no rush because I feel so good. I also love that I don't feel hungry all the time anymore too. It's very convenient to not have to eat all the time when you have little kids!

Hey BlackpoolRox!  I am ending day 4 now and feeling ok.  I have had a couple headaches, but it could be allergies too since our weather has been all over the place.  I'll say I almost quit on minute 5 when I had my first swig of black coffee, but I powered through lol.  I am a little tired, cravings kind of stink but they are just that, cravings, I can't say I am hungry between meals which is nice.  I have realized how aimlessly and thoughtlessly I was putting food into my mouth before.  Whether it was the gum or mints after lunch, a shared snack with the toddlers because they wanted to feed Mommy, etc.  I even had one point where I went to give my kids cupcakes and got icing all over my hand and it was a struggle to not lick it off lol.  But I can't say this is as hard as I anticipated either.  I am sure it is because I am only entering day 5, but still, I am so proud that 4 days are down!

smullins30.......KEEP GOING! The top of the hill is very close.......and then the downhill side is easy. You will be happy you stayed strong and will love the results on learning to eat soooo much better. I finished my first W30 today with a 17 pound loss, 5% body fat reduction, 2 pants sizeds and 1 shirt size plus tons of energy, no allergies or acid reflux. Im not saying you will have the same results (everyone is different), but you will love being able to brag about your results and your willpower to do what is right! The benefits are there and you will soon start to see and feel them. Be proud of what you have accomplished and KEEP GOING!

Well done dcducks!

Smullins, I second what Dave said, keep going, you should be seeing benefits very soon if you haven't already.

Last day for me today! I am British so this feels a bit wrong for me to say publically but I am SO proud of myself! I know it's not a huge achievement in the grand scale of things but it's a big achievement to me and I am just so pleased that I didn't waver at all and not only that, enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. My husband said last night he would be happy to continue with it but as I pointed out that's easy for him to say when I do all the cooking!! I'd like a bit more flexibility so will be monitoring the reintro phase carefully to see what I can happily bring back in and what I need to leave behind.

Well done to all who have completed and good luck to those still getting there!

Blackpoolrox....it IS a big deal. Be proud of what you have accomplished. Overcoming any addiction (smoking, eating, etc) is very hard and we all tend to minimalize the problem and get very creative at making the excuses of why we are overweight, smoke, etc.. I have started my second Whole 30 (never really ended the first) and am looking forward to losing my last 20 pounds for a total of 51. I know they will start getting harder to get rid of as I get thinner but I am bound and determined to not let my poor eating habits stop me. I am a picky eater and I do not have the patience to make ketchup out of ground pine cones and dirt. I stopped my carbs, my dairy, my sugars. But I didnt go buy ketchup without sugar. This might make some of the Whole 30 "purists" upset, but I want to let people know that there is still success to be achieved EVEN if you DO NOT do the program EXACTLY as it is written. Find your faults, eliminate them, stay focused, stay determined. I am proof that you can get healthier, lose some weight, have energy, sleep better, and feel great. Best of luck everyone.

Dave
