NurseO'Brien
I am on day 4 and I have a constant dull headache. I am trying to lose weight so I cut out fruit and my only starchy vegetable is 1/3 cup of butternut squash at lunch. Do you think my headache is from the low carbs or is it part of the process? Moderators Tom Denham Posted April 24, 2014 Moderators Share Posted April 24, 2014 My guess is that you are not eating enough generally. If you are measuring butternut squash with a 1/3 cup, you probably are starving yourself. That would guarantee a dull headache for many people. Part of my guess is because many people do not eat enough when they start a Whole30. Be sure to eat at least the minimum described in the meal planning template: http://whole30.com/downloads/whole30-meal-planning.pdf And get rid of the 1/3 cup measure. The plan is to eat a palm-size portion of meat and fill the rest of your plate with veggies. Don't fill the plate thinly, fill it generously. NurseO'Brien
It's ok to fill the plate with starchy vegetables even if you are trying to lose weight?
jent103
Just fill the plate with vegetables, period - starchy or not! I wouldn't stay completely away from starchy ones (they are delicious and many people feel much better with them as a regular part of their diet), but you don't want them to be your only source of vegetables. Most of my meals have two different kinds of vegetables; that's not necessary all the time, but it helps get me a good variety.
Robin Strathdee
My (personal) rule is that my starchy veg doesn't count. So, I always make sure I have a different veg to accompany it.
