healthyfriendly
I went to the restaurant and had some rotisserie chicken today. After eating a few bites, the server came over and asked how were doing and she said the chicken is one of their famous dish and that it was marinated in dark beer. Now I feel really bad, but I'm on day 26 of my whole30. Should I start over from the beginning? Any suggestions is greatly appreciated! Thanks! Moderators Tom Denham Posted May 4, 2014 Moderators Share Posted May 4, 2014 Oh no. This is terrible. Marinades infuse foods with their essence, which in this case includes barley, hops, and alcohol - big problems for Whole30-eating. The amounts you finally consumed may be small, but they could influence your gut health. The good news is that you made it 26 days. This should provide you will useful information about how your body responds to eating Whole30-style. The bad news is that you may not have fully accurate results during reintroductions because the marinaded chicken might have some influence on you. What I personally would do is to keep going to 30 days and then go through reintroductions as if nothing had ever gone wrong. I would note what bothered me and what did not. I would keep in mind that there was an incident on day 26 that might throw some things off. If I have serious questions about my reintroductions or wonder if I would have felt even better if I had gone longer, I would consider doing another Whole30. Personally, I kept going about 120 days from the first day I started because I liked how I felt and didn't want to risk messing it up. If you feel like I did, you could just keep going. I am sometimes the testy moderator who warns people that what they are doing is not a Whole30 and they should not go around saying they "did it" when they did not measure up to the rules and guidelines. In your circumstance, I think it would be fine to say you did the Whole30, even with that incident. If this had happened at day 10, I would have told you that a restart was necessary. On day 26, I would not call for a restart.
healthyfriendly
Thank you for the feedback tom! I have been very careful about asking what's in the food before I order, but didn't know why I failed to do so about the chicken today. I asked about other dressing that they served, not the chicken. I'm so happy to see a supportive group on whole30 though!
