Hi Everyone.

Today, I was 6 days into my first Whole 30.

I am a very healthy eater, but lately became too reliant on 'healthy treats' (bliss balls, banana bread with honey/almond meal/egg/banana etc.) and decided to do a Whole 30.

I included some low-sugar fruits (apples, berries) to satisfy any cravings, but mainly stuck to loads and loads of veg, chicken, turkey, oily fish, eggs, avocado (I don't eat red meat)

Today, I just hit a wall. And I went crazy - and the weirdest part is --  On things I don't normally even eat??

Feta cheese?? Brown rice? Muesli?? Dried fruits?? Nuts (which I have always had trouble controlling, so I tend to avoid these on a daily basis) I don't eat these foods!!

I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!! I feel like such a failure.

I am now on the floor of my living room, my stomach is so distended that my back is ACHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't even move :(

Can someone offer advice? Help?

Sorry you feel so crummy.

It would only be a failure if you completely threw in the towel at this point.  Find a way to pick yourself up and begin again.

Can you get back on the wagon, be kind to yourself, and look at the triggers that caused you to eat off plan? You can use this to come up with a strategy going forward to prevent you from going off plan again. One option is to remove the non-compliant food from your home. Also, don't use fruit to feed sugar cravings. Do something non-food related when that happens: call a friend, take a walk, read a book, do a craft, whatever.

Thank you so much for the reply :)

Sleep has been on/off, but I have never been a great sleeper, which is one of the reasons I decided to do the Whole30.

I generally eat Whole30 compliant foods in my day-to-day, which is why I found it so strange that I went 'off' with all these foods (cheese, oats, brown rice, honey, dried fruit etc.) that I don't normally even eat!

My diet previously was all Whole 30 foods - lots of vegetables, mainly greens (I try to avoid starchy vegetables like sweet potato and pumpkin), chicken, turkey, eggs, avocado, salmon, white fish, bone broth (I have a bad gut) and lots of herbal tea/water/coconut water.

I occasionally (although lately, became too frequent, which is why I decided to do the Whole30) eat 'paleo treats' like bliss balls or a banana bread/muffin type treat (made with all Whole 30 compliant foods!!)

I am quite disheartened, but so determined to press on!! I don't want to start from scratch, because I know myself and starting from day 1 again will be really harsh on my self esteem (I am recovering from bad body image issues) and I want to stop trying to be a perfectionist… so I think I will just accept that it happened and use it to move on!

Thank you again guys and girls for your support, I am so grateful for being in a community! :) XRM

Are you sure this is the healthiest to do for you right now? Looking at your image and reading your words on how you eat and how you feel about your body I am concerned that this maybe overly restrictive for you. It sounds like you have a complicated relationship with food and your body, and I am concerned that "pressing on" as you put it, and trying to be perfect about it, could be the wrong way to go for you at this time in your life. Think about it.

You said you avoid starchy veggies. Do you have a problem digesting them or are you avoiding carbs? I find that when I eat carbs my body is satisfied longer. It is possible that your body was craving carbs and that's why you ate rice. Maybe add some carbs back if you do another whole30 and see if that reduces your cravings. I noticed also that you said you eat paleo treats when you are not on a whole30, which are full of carbs. If you cut those out as well as starchy veggies you could be restricting your carbs to much. I am not an expert so this may not be the case. You will have to experiment with the amount of carbs that works for you. Have you checked out Mark Sisson's carb curve on Mark's Daily Apple? I thought it was really helpful.Good Luck!
