Guest WholeStanley
Today is day 30 and I have to admit I'm not really interested in doing a reintroduction phase - wheat and diary I already know don't agree with me and as has been said on this forum before all the foods restricted in the Whole30 are restricted for a reason so I don't really have any desire to put them back into my diet. So my plan was to just extend this to a Whole45, however my friend the chef came round the other week with a huge packet of restaurant grade smoked salmon as a gift. Unfortunately, after he dropped it round I realised it contained less than 2% sugar so I didn't tuck into it whilst on my Whole30. I was planning to enjoy a smoked salmon breakfast on day 31, keep Whole30 compliant the rest of the time, get through the rest of the smoked salmon this week and then start another Whole30 when it's all finished. Do people think this is a good idea? OR do you think even that small amount of sugar could awaken the dragon and undo all my hard work? Am I better off just cutting my loses and donating the salmon to friends and family? All thoughts and comments welcome
Moderators Tom Denham Posted June 3, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 3, 2014 I've never had a sugar dragon, so can't speak to what might get one going. The health dangers of sugar cured salmon, bacon, or ham is not high, so I would not worry about them outside of a Whole30. The danger with sugar is the volume that so easily sneaks into our diet when we eat conventionally prepared foods or maintain a dessert habit. snowflower
My experience has been that sugar in meats and little amounts in recipes or salad dressing do NOT wake my dragon. I can enjoy these items regularly with no ill effects when I'm not doing a Whole30. Paleo "treats" and any sort of traditional baked good or candy wake it up with a vengeance....no matter how small the serving.
Peebles
Hey Stanley, not exactly what you were asking but you can totally find smoked salmon without added sugar! (Generally, I think what works for you post-W30 is a highly individual question. We all have different stories - and weaknesses.)
Guest WholeStanley
Thanks for everyone's replies - I think I'm going to have the smoked salmon tomorrow morning as it's not really the type of sugar i ever craved before, i suppose i'm just curious to see if the Whole30 has made me more sensitive to sugar but I think I'll only find out through experimentation! @Peebles Thanks - yeah I found sugar free smoked salmon the other day and thats what I will be in the future, but just because this stuff is such good quality and I got it for free (!) I didn't want to have to throw it away/pass it on!
