Nightingale
I am on day 8 and have had a really really dry mouth for a few days. I am breastfeeding a 17 month old so theoretically it could be that but I drink lots and lots of water and its a new symptom... I think I am probably hypothyroid as I have always had low blood pressure, slow heart rate and low body temp. Is dry mouth related? What are the best things to eat to support thyroid? What should be avoided? Yesterdays food log: M1: 3 eggs fried in ghee/tallow, sweet potato parsnip mash with coconut oil, greens cooked in coconut oil (filled a 12 inch skillet then cook it down), 1/2cup pineapple M2: 1 cup broccoli slaw cooked in ghee, 1 cup chicken, 1 cup cauliflower cream sauce (cauliflower, ghee, garlic, broth, chicken fat) M3: small box raisins, h.b egg (was out running errands so not as big as I needed) M4: beef stew meat (2 palms worth) cooked in ghee with carmalized onion (1/2 onion), 3/4 orange bell pepper, 1 roasted beet, sauteed beet greens (about 1 cup after cooked) Today M1: 3 fried eggs, sauteed greens (filled skillet then cooked down) Also I have 3 kids 5 and under who are all sick so I have had ver very little sleep the last few nights. It is uncomfortable to always feel so parched, even right after drinking! Thanks for any help!
Moderators Tom Denham Posted June 3, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 3, 2014 I have issues with dry mouth, especially at night. During the day, I keep a glass of water or a mug of herbal tea at my desk to sip regularly. I rinse my mouth with water when I wake up at night. I drink a little, but avoid drinking much as I don't want to wake up needing to go too soon. They say dry mouth is mostly a side effect of medications. I don't know if that is true for me or not. One of the things you need to support thyroid function is iodine. I take a daily supplement made from seaweed. Fish and seafood is a good source of iodine. Nightingale
Thanks Tom! I don't take any medications. I am concerned about iodine as the research I have done seems to show that taking it can actually worsen thyroid problems. Does anyone have experience with taking it? I guess I could/should just up my fish/seafood for now...
