missng
Hi everyone! I'm doing my first Whole30 and I'm on my third day. Food wise, things have been great. I eat meat, veggies, some fish, and a little bit of fruit. Unfortunately my seasonal allergies are going crazy. I'm so congested that I can't focus at work or sleep at night. I just got back from a trip, so it might be a bit of a cold, too. I tried managing my symptoms with my neti pot, but it was not helping at all. My congestion has gotten so bad that I've started taking zyrtec, a steroidal nose spray, and a decongestant just to get through the day and sleep at night. I know Whole30 can really help with seasonal allergies, but I am absolutely miserable without meds. Am I sabotaging my Whole30?
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted June 11, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 11, 2014 You're allowed to take medications. You're probably much too early in your W30 to be seeing relief from seasonal allergy seasons, and there is absolutely no reason to be miserable. In my opinion, given the importance of good sleep to health, you'd be sabotaging your W30 efforts more if you didn't take the meds and ended up unable to sleep at night -- not to mention after a night or two of that, you'd be so exhausted you'd be more prone to eating non-W30 compliant foods just because you were too tired to deal with cooking. Moderators Tom Denham Posted June 11, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 11, 2014 I just started using some kind of steroidal nasal spray this week after my doctor wrote me a prescription to help with stuffiness. This is the worst year ever for me and I have been eating Whole30-style since 2010.
