Starting 1st W30 June 17 - Intimidated

Well, it's here. I start my first Whole 30 on Tuesday (6/17) with some trepidation.  I'm generally in good shape and eat pretty well (I've leaned toward paleo over the past few months), but I want to take it to the next level and see if this can make improvements in my sleep and how I feel in general.  The biggest challenge for me is going to be not drinking beer.  Over the past many years, I've developed the habit of drinking several beers each evening. And although I don't think it affects the way I feel, I probably just don't know.  So here we go.  Any encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I think I might have a sensitivity to coconut oil.  Since I've added coconut oil to foods over the last few months, I've developed some skin rashes that will not go away.  They've started to get a little better the last couple days since I've been off coconut oil for a week.  I sure love coconut oil :(

I love coconut oil! I hope you aren't allergic! Coconut oil contact allergies are quite uncommon. Might it have been something that you ate WITH the coconut oil?

Day 10!  1/3 of the way through!

Here are the hardest things over the past 10 days:

1) Feeling tired with occasional headaches.  Although I think I'm slowly turning the corner on that.  Energy is gradually coming back, and I do mean gradually!

2) Buying foods at the grocery store that don't have the forbidden ingredients.  Finding a food without sugar/preservatives/veg oil/ is such a pain.  And the awesome wife will make some great meal that she thinks is W30 complient only to have me discover is has a little soy sauce in it and I can't eat it :(

3) Not getting to enjoy my evening beers!  Although after the initial disappointment as I'm driving home from work, I get over it pretty quickly.

I have slipped a couple of times and accidentally ingested some sulfites (from a jar of olives), and ate some rotisserie chicken with cane juice in the ingredient list.  Grrr!

But I think I'm through the hardest part and hopefully time will move on a little faster now.

Congrats, good luck, and enjoy! If you only focus on what you're eliminating, you'll miss out on enjoying all that you're gaining (in a good way, of course).

Hang in there and keep going. While the accidental can sugar is ok to let slip accidentally ingesting sulfites (assuming it was in the ingredient list) does call for a restart as it is a common gut disrupter. If the label says "contains naturally occuring sulfites" that is ok.

Have your meals been pretty similar to what you posted for Day 1? Your fat and protein actually looks alright though I agree you could probably add more fat as well. You should also be having vegetables with every meal including your first one. If you have been doing that than yay! I just noticed they were missing from your Day 1 first meal.

And I totally agree with LadyM about focusing on what you can eat not what you can not. A big part of this program is changing how we think about food not just what we eat.
